Agreed, that would be great to see. I'm sure Weta could pull it off successfully. A limited run would have a definite market of everyone who entered the contest at least, plus the content is there already!

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

Hello. Just to clarify, are you extending it to the 31st now instead of the 30th? If so. Awesome. The more time the better.

Hi docemmettbrown

Yes, as Art has indicated, midnight on 31 Aug (US Time) !

Cheers

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

Been lurking, watching entries come in... I'm one of those "down to the wire" people, had really hoped I wouldn't be but things do come up. I let myself get hung up in design stages, too, and finally just had to chuck the sketchbook and go for it. Just finished a pretty epic battle getting the gun disassembled. Nothing like quality time with a heat gun in 110 heat index weather ;) I think the Glue Person on the assembly line was feeling overzealous. I haven't cracked the sides apart, seems there's no hope on that one; so a little relieved others haven't done that, either...

It's going to be close, but I'll do everything I can to finish. Would certainly encourage anyone else who thought it's too soon to at least take a crack at painting it, if you haven't got time to go nuts with mods. It ain't over til the fat bison moos, right?

D48thRonin, seconded about the "business end", that's going to look so cool painted... love the lines of it.

Good luck to those who've finished, and to those who haven't especially ;)

You can make it ADarkly, go for it !

Cheers

Tim

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

It is not too late! Some time back Weta extended the contest to the end of the month! You have until then to send your three photos in to promo@therpf.com.

To cover submission, here is the text from the entry letter (with the final date updated):

"Once you have modified your Righteous Bison for Lord Cockswain, please give it a name on a bovine theme (including but not limited to words such as cow, bull , cattle , etc) .
• Provide three photos of it via email to contest@therpf. com. Photos should include left prof i l e , right profile and a three - quarter shot. We encourage you to take photos with a neutral background and with good lighting.
• To submit your customized Righteous Bison you must be a member of the RPF (membership is free) and you must submit your customized raygun by the 31th August."

Please also be sure to include your RPF member name and the name of your raygun with your entry!

Hi Everyone,

Just a friendly reminder of what you need to do to send in your entries to Art Andrews by midnight on 31 August US Pacific Coast Time

Cheers

Tim

Not thrilled with my outcome :( Lack of time and too much build got to me!

Woo. I just rescued my parts from outside. The second coat of Aluminum barely had time to dry when a dust storm decided to role in. :confused
I may not get as far as I hoped today but I'm still on schedule. :D

TylerH, I like your pistol grip matching your buttstock. :thumbsup

D48thRonin, man that is one clean build. :thumbsup

After RustBelt made a point about going vintage, I shelved the aluminum and picked up some copper and brass. I remade my emblems and made them left and right to go on the fin. Then, I made up these data plates since they fit my motif, they will go onto the buttstock. The top is fresh the bottom is heat discolored and not finished with the the aging. I soldered brass nails in the mounting holes and cut them flush on the backside.

I don't know how many people tried to make their own screw heads from scratch, but wow... it that a pain... I lost more than I needed to use. because fo the diameters I needed, I used a pair out of steel and a pair out of brass.

I made this valve handle out of brass. It's the atom part of the logo I soldered to the brass screw to use it as a wing nut type screw. I used a tinning paste that plated it copper when it's heated up.

Re: Weta - Dr Grordbort's Custom Raygun Contest! - SHOW OFF YOUR CONCEPTS AND DESIGNS

Good news!

Ive managed to get the build finished and a rough paint job done...but im away on holiday now until the 31st!

Just hope i can take some half decent photos when i get back and that nothing does wrong with camera or computer!!

I really didnt think id be able to get close to being done. Its not as nice as i would have liked but i could have spent another month on refining the paint job.

But i figured a rushed entry is better than no entry!

Good luck to those still going.

Very cool MA!! Here are some of the knobs i used. The atom knob turns on the tripple dark matter amplifiers and the brass knob controls my guns OX output. They did say Bovine right!!!:lol

Finally recovered from Comic-Con. Getting ready for final coat of paint,a little rust and dust. Imaginations really ran wild with this contest. I highly recommend Grordbort fans get the Weta Collectors guide. Check out page 183 for a couple of early Bison renderings that easily lend themselves to easy conversions of the current market version. After the paint dries on this contest gonna get to work on a large version of the Moon Hater. Weta Collectors guide is jammed full of renderings and photos. Excellent for research and inspiration.

It's alot easier to just screw in real screws that make just the heads!?

Sometimes... but if you want to match it just right, you gota make 'em or copy 'em.

Zombie Killer, if I could paint like that I'd be way better off.:eek That looks incredible!

Brahman 38 Special
Sniper Riffle - With Buckshot FX

Dimensions:
32” x 10.4” x 3.5”

Weight:
Approx 2.8 lbs

A sleek blunderbuss riffle and adaptation of the Righteous Bison, the Brahman 38 Special harnesses the unpredictable forces of Cud Methanium [in the green tubes] and powers it though a ray-beam with the precision required by an elite sniper.

Lord Cockswain is a fan of his standard Blunderbuss, though I'm sure he would rather prefer his sniper forces using one of these when providing him with cover-fire. It is my understanding that his own blunderbuss has a generalised ray-beam and really only requires a generalised target.

Cud Methanium is a volatile gas that can produce a pungent explosion. Compression of the gas and held in the canister creates a more versatile transport of the bovine product than it’s raw state. Gently heating the canisters inside the gun – and redirecting the Righteous Bison’s technology - creates a “slicey-dicey” bright green beam.

Originally named after a young Brahman bull #38 called “Buckshot” – At 18 months old, he is a light-weight animal with a hefty kick. Although a bit of a hot-tempered scatterbrain, this young bull has been known to strike with great precision. Having recently smarting a carrier driver firmly on the knee before jumping many fences to get away from the transporter craft.

The Brahman 38 Special has that blunderbuss style that Lord Cockswain’s so fond of, and is as easy to use. It all comes down to that little lever on the left hand side - to draw down the beam to a precision shot. Of cause opening-up the beam would produce the Buckshot FX so common with mechanical blunderbusses…Scattering the burning ray to produce a light and random “peppering”.

Sometimes all the troupes need just a little bit of encouragement!

Important Note - When using the Buckshot FX exclusively, and not allowing the canisters to discharge, may cause them to combusterphart. Such games as Melty-Melty are popular amongst the troupes so the Brahman38 should be used with caution at the camp fire!
