WETA: District 9 Guns

It's overall slightly smaller than the Arc Generator, as you'd expect.

Ha! I said the exact opposite. Seemed much bigger to me. http://www.therpf.com/f9/weta-d9-gas-projector-97217/

From Weta. They seem to be the same length.

Arc Dimensions: 15.7" x 39.4" x 3.9" (H x W x D) 40 cm x 100 cm x 10 cm
Weight: 10.8lbs (4.9 Kg)

Gas Dimensions: 23.6" x 39.4" x 3.9" (H x W x D) 60 cm x 100 cm x 10 cm
Weight: 11.9lbs (5.4 Kg)

The depth dimension is off for the GP, it's thicker than that thanks to the canister mag. I'm surprised it's heavier than the AG. I'd have said it had a smaller footprint apart from the mag. Edit: snap! :)

Curses! Griefboy, how'd I miss your thread? I have to retract my 'Ichiban' now. Poo!

I'm looking for help in weathering and possible even doing a somewhat repaint on a Arc Generator.

If anyone has any weathering skills (or nunchuku skills, bow hunting skills, computer hacking skills :)) shoot me a PM.

I live in the USA.

Was this "Grey" Arc used in the film or is this from the special features or something? Might be cool to do a repaint like this one?

thanks!

are you wanting to do the work yourself or you want someone else to do it?

Yeah, I'd like to have it done...

I thought about you two, but you're in Scotland and he's in Australia...:cry

I noticed that the gas projector was used like a grenade launcher to blow up a shack by a prawn early in the film.

Sidewinder, the same explosion FX was used also in the opening blast during the MNU lab attack, implying that maybe Wikus or CJ used a GP there too. Then again it was originally conceived as firing a corrosive gas/fluid, and the prop was equipped with a squirt pipe for practical fx (not used). And in the MNU testing scene, it acts like a flame-thrower. Bit of a multi-mode weapon.

Brad, the "grey" Arc Gen was recoloured in Photoshop for some reason. It's actually the same gun I've copied with my repaint - orange all the way.

There's a pic of Wikus using a different gun getting out of a white vehicle in front of the MNU building. It's the one with the circular center. I wonder why they cut that scene.

I wonder if its cos the bag you see Wikus escaping from the Nigerians with could only have held a couple of weapons...?

Doubt it, Sidewinder - continuity wasn't that big a concern in the editing suite; there are several flubs. Inevitable I guess in a film-making process as fluid as this one apparently was.

FB, the Halo gun (or whatever the consensus name for it is) was also recoloured in that shot. I wonder what the whole 'get rid of the orange' thing was about. And we don't know they cut that scene, IIRC it isn't in the cut scenes on the DVD is it? I know I've read discussion or speculation relating to it being purely a publicity shot. The other recoloured shot is the one of Wikus, inside the MNU building, holding the actual Arc Gen from the film scene. So that could be interpreted as corroborating evidence that they shot it but it doesn't need to mean that; they must have had mountains of material to choose from and if they were shooting posed publicity stuff too then whatever prop was nearest to hand might have been chosen, almost randomly.

Check this poster. Weta workshop should totally produce this. Sorry if this has already been posted

Ooooo Baby!

That is really cool.

I've been looking for a poster to display with my guns on the wall. I'm using a movie poster, but one of these would be killer!

If Weta doesn't make one, I'm sure someone here could...:love

Thanks for sharing!
