Webley Green PFC Replica

Greetings Indiana Jones fans! I've just learned that a well known prop and costume vendor is looking into creating a realistic replica version of the Webley Green Revolver (as used by Indy in The Last Crusade and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.)

Since there is a large initial cost involved, I offered to start a few threads on several forums to help him gauge interest in the project and see how much demand there might be for this particular piece.

With the exception of some beautiful fanmade (and highly limited run) replicas, there is currently no replica version of the Webley Green on the market, so this would be the first.

Thanks, and hopefully this will soon become a reality and fill in a niche for fellow Indy collectors looking to complete their collection of Indy Gear!

One major detail that I forgot to mention is that this would likely be a PFC (Plug Fire Cap) or Airsoft, so either way it will be the most realistic version of this particular revolver as well, aside from owning the real deal.

Cool! Well that's part of the key in getting this thread out there. The more demand there is for this piece and the more people know about it, the less it will cost. So if you are so inclined, and know others who may be interested please pass the word on!

Which would you prefer? Plug Fire Cap, or Airsoft?

I'd personally prefer the Plug Fire Cap.

Please pass the information on to anyone you may know. This way it will bring the cost way down for everyone! Thanks for the replies everyone.

:)

Totally interested, but like others said it is depending on the price.
I would prefer an Air Soft Version if it is shell loaded.

I'd be interested in a Plug Fire Cap version, airsoft requires a firearms license where I live.

Welcome!

So how is setting a bunch of people in glorified chat-rooms to say: "I'M INTERESTED!" going to get an airsoft replica made?

In-general, many people are flakes and won't follow-through when the time comes to buy. Yah, y'all know who ya are...

Even if you got 1000 people to say YES!, how does that generate the confidence for the manufacturer to spend about $20k in development (minimum) and probably $40 to $50k in prototyping, tooling, debug, etc. And THEN, the cost to manufacture, package and distribute each unit...about $20 to $40 each?

You are at a few hundred grand already. Forget about marketing costs...

And of course, this process would take 9 to 18 months to complete (unless they have already started a while ago). How many people will follow-through at that point?

"Ooooh dooood....I really want this, but my car needs new brakes...yaaah...I will have to pass, but good luck!"

Sorry to "pee on your Wheeties", but I have been doing this professionally since 1994. I know a LITTLE something about mass-production overseas. :)

I would LOVE to get one. Lets see if it comes out. *I* will buy a few...

SD,

I agree with you. Just because people say that they would buy one doesn't exactly mean that they will, but I just figured starting this thread would be a way to help gauge interest to see if there was a market for this. I am a part of another forum where the subject was brought up and I offered to start a thread about it here. It may never get made, but hopefully if the demand is really there it may work in our favor.

The manufacturer I believe is Tanaka in Japan that did the 1917 S+W replica Indy gun and the person trying to gauge the market is Todd's costumes.

If it wasn't for me already having a SA REAL WG I'd be on this. I hope they follow thru on this as there definitely is an untapped market. And this piece will not be a $5 cap gun ,more like $350. That's a whole lot cheaper than 2,000 + that the REAL ones cost.

I so know where you're coming from. I've had more than a few people express interest in stuff in the junkyard and say the same thing.:rolleyes Methinks alot of people should get another cheaper hobby. This is for the BIG BOYS.:lol:cool

Yes indeed the manufacturer is Tanaka Works in Japan and this would be sold through Todd's Costumes. I would guess the price to be in the $300 dollar range as well. While that may seem like a lot of money, as yodakiller1138 has pointed out, prop replication and costuming are not cheap hobbies. Plus even if you can find a real WG revolver, be prepared to pay several thousand dollars for it!

I certainly hope this gets made!

I'm not sure about the status of this project. When I last spoke with someone from Todd's Costumes they said that this is a major possibility. I'm sure a great deal of it will depend on not only how much demand there is for the product (on Todd's end) but also on how bad Tanaka Works may have been affected by the tsunami in Japan.

Let's hope that this project is still a go, and more importantly things are looking up for the people who are suffering overseas.

Not much cheaper than buying a really similar Mk IV though.

And I saw a WG last year in nice shape for $600. Too broke to grab it though.

If I got one, I would be after the Airsoft version. I already have a real Mk VI and a Mk IV though so honestly not after one.

You bet I would change my tune the second I did an Indiana Jones costume though, simply for the fact they don't let you carry real firearms at cons. I'm going through a similar process for my EFNY stuff right now.

So what do the Indy costumers have to say? I figured they'd be all over this like white on rice.
