Warehouse 13 - The Tesla Gun

I so want a mini-Tesla. But, with work full-time & being back in school full time ... no building for me till I get my electricians diploma in October :(

a small $8 pipe cutter from Home Depot produces the EXACT end detail.

Would you be able to type out the product name? Sadly it's not quite legible in the photo.

That being said, there's a model shop nearby that sells small gauge brass tubing, which should "copper up" quite nicely with some paint, and even mimic the look of the end of the tube with a smaller pipe fed into it.

I no longer have the packaging, but the legend reads "General No. 120" and it's for 1/8" to 1-1/8" (or 3mm to 30mm) tubing. I think I spotted it in the plumbing aisle, though I'm not sure, as I wasn't looking for it... I just spotted it while searching for something else.

If you can't find a real one there are plenty of good all metal replicas out there even here in Australia. I would buy one here but have no use for it after making a mini-Tesla and they are about $120 here.

I bought a toy capgun online that looked pretty good (especially for the bits I would use in the Tesla) but it turned out to be 3.5" long. Oh well.

found a nice replica online just waiting for it to arrive now

I'll definitely have my mini tesla at dragoncon. Eddie signed our Farnsworths, but I'm not sure if there is enough room on the mini tesla for sigs.

I wonder if Saul is doing Dragoncon this year?

Yup, Saul is already on the list for DragonCon Welcome to Dragon*Con! - Welcome to Dragon*Con! Guest List Eddie isn't on the list yet so I guess we got a bit of early confirmation since he told timelordd he'd be there :D

Eddie told me he would not miss it..

Awesome. I always make it a point to go see him. He is so much like "Pete". Which is really cool because some actors, while still cool and good people, are totally different than you expect when you meet them for the first time. Did you get one of his Warehouse 13 SECURITY shirts? I got a pair for my son and I last year.

quick pick of atest pull of my deringer mould(need to buy pigment for the real tesla)

Has anyone found a good source for the brass core? The main part looks like one could get by with a piece of thick brass pipe but the 2 end pieces to cap it off are harder to figure out.

The trigger mechanism is also something I'm trying to track down. It looks like you could get by with a solid brass piece that you then add the front "button" and top connector to.

If anyone has any links or suggestions I'd appreciate the nudge :)

Greetings,
@jedibugs..... is see you were trying to get the "cut" correctly done for the copper tubes around the center barrel. How I did that for the hero guns was cut them on a lathe and then with a custom ground cutter, I was able to create that effect. You can use a standard pipe cutter with say a dull edge but you need to open up the hole on the end a little more. From your pic, its too mushroomed in.

@timelordd..... if you're talking about the 4 springs around the center barrel of the Tesla, thats not a found spring. When I was building the studio guns for the show, I custom made those. The dia of the spring... The inside dia spec.... the length.... as well as the one end of the spring going into a cone shape is all custom dimensions that I came up with specifically for that area of the gun as well as the dia of the rods underneath. How's everything else going?

I hope this helps everyone out. If you need help here and there, I'll try and answer as much as I can. I just finished one movie and started another so I'm a little busy.... But will try and answer when I can. Please please please keep in mind that I can only give advise and help in such a way that doesn't upset the studio. Also, if you have a question about the prop, feel free to hit me up in a PM. However, please don't email me with every question asking for exact dimensions and processes etc etc on the entire prop.... Basically asking me how I made the entire gun. Lol I would love to help but will only go so far.

As for everyone's work here? Love it.... you guys are the best!

Your input Kenney as always is greatly appreciated. Are you allowed to say what the movies are that you're involved with?

Hi Peter,
Man its been a while since I last left a post. Sure, no harm in saying what projects I've been working on.... just can't post pics of anything. I've actually been pretty busy. I just finished two features (Star Trek 2 and Percy Jackson 2) and gearing up for two more later this summer. If all goes well... Ninja Turtles and then Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel. Since I did all the gas canisters and some of the lab equepment for the first Apes filem, I figured I would try and hop on board for the next one. Until I start the next feature, I'm finishing up a run of Tesla guns for QMx. I keep forgetting your from Australia. Man, I need to get out your way..... need the vacation and been wanting to get out there.

Cheers
Kenney

Good to hear from you Kenney. Yes It's been a while and you've obviously been busy. You should get over here especially while our dollar is down a bit. Certainly better value for tourists. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to WH13 starting again.
