Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

Here's where I'm at so far. Still needs a lot of work.
Can't upload much until I finish this filler stage completely.

Wow that looks amazing just with the mapped out panel lines/etc... I'm looking forward to see how you're approaching those details. Great work.

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

I usually just use needle files and score the details in. I have to re draw them out though. The faceplate and chin details are off. I'm ahead of myself though. I still have more sanding and what not to do. Also the sides will need fixing. I just draw them on for fun.

The faceplate has been outlined already with my dremel in that pic. I've already etched in the division of the faceplate and chin.

Man i like this pic. The bottom left looks like the Patriot Kabul edition. It looks camoflauge and with my idea of paint that changes color electronically, man that wold be cool...GM

yeah, that was the first thing that came to my mind when I took that pic. A few people commented that as well.

Since that pic, I did a lot of reshaping the to top sides of the helmet. Looks a lot better now.

I'd like to see a full armour that way. Hmmm maybe i should do it. Challenge accepted. Hey Stealth you should give me a call tonight if you're still interested in working together...GM

Yeah, I have a big couple of projects I want to do at that shop at your work. We'll need the space. I'll call you later today. I hope it interests you. You'll learn a lot, even if we are only using it on Weekends. We can get a lot done.

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

Stealth... I know when using foam you seal it with watered down glue (several coats) but have you ever used the resin as a last coat for strength?

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

laellee - Thank you for your thorough reply. I didn't think the nature of cardboard would allow for cutting the joining edges at angles but I gave it a try and now my lines are crisp. I don't know why I didn't simply try it before asking, it's certainly a lot less work than that folding technique I was attempting. If I am able to source some cardboard from appliance boxes I will employ it in the armor. Thanks again!

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

No, it would crack so easily. If I wanted strength, I wouldn't be spending money on resin and foam.

Awesome progress, cant wait to see more!

My Internet has been down for the past few days. Not sure when it will be back.
I can't be too mad though. Last time it went down was honestly 7-8 years ago.
Regardless, I can only post with my phone. The next vids will have to wait until they repair whatever's wrong with it.

I'll keep filming whatever other things I need to do like
Cutting the faceplate off and what not to stay ahead.

Any picture updates to tease us whilst we wait for the next episode STEALTH? Especially of the MK42? :D
Very much looking forward to the next one, I have all the tools you mentioned ready and I just want to wait for this next one before I begin properly fibreglassing!

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

Can't wait for the next step because I have no idea how to re-draw all the lines after the body filler

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

Hi Stealth, awesome build, your older video tutorials on youtube are what got me started in this hobby.

Quick question, I know for this helmet you're using cardboard, but if you had used typical cardstock, how many coats of resin would/should you use on the inside and outside?

I'm using cardstock, and I've been doing 3 each on the inside and outside before moving to fiberglassing and body filler. Is that too many coats?

Thanks in advance.

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

Hey,
With cardstock, I usually just do 1-2 on the outside and one layer on the inside, then place the fiberglass down over that layer then add another layer to coat over that. If there are any spots I missed I just mix a small batch to get the remaining fiberglass coated. That's pretty much it really.
so 1-2 on inside and out.
I use epoxy, it's a bit thicker. I think what you're doing should be fine with the fiberglass resin.

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

Hey stealth, I'm also building an iron patriot suit myself except im doing the whole thing out of fibreglass.. im currently up to the last two parts in pepping being the chest and helmet... i noticed in your videos that u used cardboard for the helmet.. would you recommend that method over using the cardstock??... im also thinking about using cardboard for the chest piece to give it abit more strength overall what's your opinion?

Re: IRON PATRIOT Costume TUTORIAL Part 6C -Filling, Sanding Pepakura (HELMET) Page 7

Some people have problems with cardboard but for me,
Cardboard all the way. I'll never do a cardstock Armor piece again.

only thing I'll ever use cardstock, is for templates.
