WannaWanga ANH Graflex Configuration

Honstly I've never seen a thin lipped Folmer patent and I've seen a fair few tubes, plus as if you wouldn't want the rarest variant of these things to be the hero!
Would that make the thin-lipped Folmer with patent version the rarest variant, and thus best for the hero? ;)

I would say the Elstree saber doesn't have a thick lip -- maybe not as thin as teecrooz's above, but certainly not the fullness and depth of an Inc-style bottom. Same with the Skywalker Ranch Graflex (though I can't find Gino's close up of the endcap with the patent stamp off hand, I think this shot still shows the thin lip).

Daaammnn that's clean, I stand corrected

Hahah that was good
Damn I honestly never noticed that on the ranch, yeah I'd say the Elstree is a nice medium

I think that looks pretty typical of the Folmer Patent/Late Folmer style (at least it matches the ones I have).

I drilled my first Graflex 20 years ago, just like the second one in Drew's pic above. And that is why I'll never drill another Graflex again. Even though we know more now than we did then, it's not like the ROTJ Vader or the Luke V2 where these props have come to light. The ANH Hero Graflex (or ESB Hero for that matter) may still come to light one day and further surprise us. Until then I'll stick to gluing severed rivet heads and no one will know the difference. :)

Wonder if that has any statistical impact on the bottom-cell length variations.

ie, shorter 3 cell, wide flange.
— longer 3 cell, thin flange

As far as I know there's always small variations on bottom lengths. No CNC in the old days!

I'm waiting for my ANH conversion set and grip guide from Roy but am worried that I'll screw up the cuts on the ends of the grips to get the angles on them. Can anyone give me some guidance on how to accurately cut the grips?
Thanks in advance!
Chris

I first cut mine vertical with a small exacto hobby saw about 1mm longer than specified, I then used a small file to slowly shorten to the correct length and get the angle/curvature I wanted. Don’t stress too much, you have to remember that the original prop guys probably spent 10 seconds per grip doing it by eyeball and clearly didn’t care if they were all the same. I was going for unevenness and a rough cut look.

i just recently started my build. I have access to a pedestal mount belt sander where I can adjust the angle. so far so good
