VERA... one for the GUN EXPERTS

Hey gang,

I reckon there's a bunch o' y'all 'round these here parts that're a damn site better'n me at indentifyin' parts o' firearms. I'd take it as a kindness if y'all in-the-know people care to help a fella like me out.

Here goes (back to normal speak):

Does anyone know...

- if Vera's wood grips are "off the shelf" items? I've been searching a bit, mostly for "competition-type" grips, but I can't seem to find any that match.

- what kind or scope and (I presume) laser sight that are mounted on the custom-machined rail? I'm guessing those are obtainable... somewhere.

- if the folding stock is an off-the-shelf item? I've been looking at folding stocks too, but none seem to match... and it kinda looks like it must be a custom thing.

Any leads or info would be appreciated.

Thank ye kindly,

I've already looked through those links... the companion books too... no joy. (Thanks though.)

However...

I just discovered that the SCOPE at least might be from

http://www.gggaz.com/

I'm gonna try and find it on the site....

GG&G makes various mounts and such, not scopes. The scope reminds me of something that used to go on FAL rifles what with that rubber bit on the back, but I can't recall the model. Have a clearer picture?

edit - you prolly saw one of these:

Now for some reason I was remembering Vera as having an Aimpoint, but then when I went looking for pictures it didn't look like it after all. If you *do* like the look of the aimpoints though, Hakko makes a lookalike for about a quarter the cost.

Indeed... upon closer inspection (and some sharpening in Photoshop) the letters are indeed stamped on the mount, not the scope.

I know exactly what the rear scope and mount is and what the front scope is.

The stock and grips are custom, as is everything else (apart from the base gun) TBH.

You seem to have left out the next sentence, which starts with 'they are...' ;)

So I did. Possibly because I spent a long long time seeking the ID of these items so as to maximise the accuracy of my Vera kit.

Well, thank god no one else will benefit from your hard work!

If everybody just shared their expertise and information, well shoot, you'd have to create a forum, like, ya know, for replica prop builders to trade info and ideas.

Madness, madness, I say!!

I have no intention of building a Vera, but my best guess is still a night vision scope or monocular. I can find similar items on Google, but nothing that takes the prize. Could be an out of production model, or I could be in totally the wrong ballpark :lol

I've been googling, looking at gun sites... airsoft sites... haven't found anything yet. All these scopes look so similar and it's really hard when you're not into "guns'n'ammo" outside the prop realm (like me).

Maybe it's not a firearm scope :lol

Could be a spotter, or a monocular. Could be modded, too. Just sayin'...

Thanks for all the insults and snide comments guys, 'preciate that.

Blad, yes I mean I am in the process of making a complete Vera kit to (possibly) sell. I've got a mold for the base gun receiver, I also have the rear scope mount and part of the rear scope and the front laser sight unit. The other parts I am in the process of making or having made - been at this for about a year now I guess.

Rear scope is an AN/PVS-18 or M983 Litton NVG monocular - wanna buy one? Forget it, even if you have the many $1000s they cost, they are available to military and law enforcement only.

Rear scope mount is an ITT QD High Mount - again rather spendy in the $100s range but anyone can buy them. Correct model has been mostly superceded I think, ones currently available have different details like the lever etc.

Front laser is a Dual Beam Aiming Laser (DBAL) - again a $1000 and military/law enforcement only item. However, there is a 'replica' you can buy which looks the same but doesn't have all the features of the real deal by Star called the D-LAP (duel laser aiming pointer). $200 or so gets you one of these.

How the prop guys managed to get hold of the scope and laser units - given their status - I have no idea

Happy now?
