VERA... one for the GUN EXPERTS

Well if you're making a kit I can understand you being reticent to name every part!

I know this isn't an interest thread and with due respect to the OP, but I'd be interested in a kit :)

Regarding where the prop guys sourced the parts, didn't I read somewhere that Vera was used in another movie prior to Firefly?

I said it in PM and I'll say it here... a Big Damn Thank You for sharing the info.:thumbsup :thumbsup

It's what this place is about (at least to me) and I realize that I would never have found those scopes without help given my limited knowledge of the subject. (Late last night I was actually thinking of contacting Gibbons gun shop.) I imagine it must've been a quite a chore finding them.

As you said... a quick search of those scopes puts them out of obtainable range for most of us... especially if you're not in the US, since exporting NV equipment is a big no-no.

(Blad- Vera was first built for Showtime with Eddie Murphy.)

Thanks for all the insults and snide comments guys, 'preciate that.

I really don't understand your attitude in this thread. What did you really expect as a reaction when you make a 'I know what it is, but I'm not going to tell you.' post?

Given that the parts are way out of budget for any RPFer I don't see how revealing your information could be damaging to you. I appreciate that research can be time consuming and hard work, but I always thought that was part of being a member of the RPF.

I spent a couple of hours googling last nght, just for the fun of it, and came pretty close to finding the scope. I honestly don't get why you feel so put out.

How the prop guys managed to get hold of the scope and laser units - given their status - I have no idea

vera was recycled from a bigger movie... i don't know if it was modified at all for firefly, but perhaps all that stuff was from the al pacino movie, which presumably had a much better budget.

as far as the comments folks were making... to me, this board is about sharing info. in the rare cases i have anything of use i get excited to share it.

the sentiment toward keeping info private just seems contrary to that spirit, so i think it rubs people wrong.

When the gun was used in Showtime it didn't have the scope on it, or the shells on the stock.
