Done / Completed VERA KIT, (RUN IS DONE!)

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

First post has been updated to reflect the current state of things. We're getting close. (Though last night I reprinted a few scope parts for the 4th time since I wasn't completely satisfied with the details... and I'm still not, lol.)

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

Just wanted to break the silence a bit. I'm still busy manufacturing parts for the master pattern. (I went back and changed some things I wasn't happy with.) Should have more news soon.

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

Quick update. Things ARE moving along. Knee-deep in plastic. These are some master parts, plus a couple of specially commissioned prints for folks who want more than a resin kit. How many Veras can you spot?

Also... not that it will matter for the resin kits (since they're be mastered and smooth) but here are a couple macro shots of the prints I am producing. The glitter in the plastic makes it hard to photograph, but look at the surface! Obviously some parts have more visible print lines, but here area couple examples where they are almost nonexistent- almost like a cast part directly off the printer.

Extremely fine work! Can you share the make and model of your printer?

Still in if it needs to be said.

Excited to see how these turn out. And how the specially commissioned ones compare to the resin ones.

At a glance and if the kit-builder is fairly skilled at painting and masking, there will not be THAT big a difference. The main thing will be when you start doing close inspections and see that the custom ones have visible seams where the parts separate, which always adds a lot of realism. Then there's the working trigger and cocking mechanism of course. If you only want a wall-hanger the kit will be fine- especially if we can make it accept a separate receiver. I've so far only taken on two commissioned prints- one is on its way out the door (in kit form) and the other will most likely be assembled and painted by me. It's a staggering amount of time to just get the parts done. I know folks often think 3d printing is just hitting the button and walking away but if you want good results it's a lot more involved. Reprints, constant monitoring of the machine, adjusting speeds in real-time at different points to get optimum quality but speed up the print when possible to save time... it gets nuts.

And I really appreciate your willingness to go that extra mile!

Oh no, I perfectly understand how much time, labor, and skill go into builds like this. Especially the small details. My main focus is building cars up and most don't understand that, same type of thing just a different set of skills.

And the only reason I was curious was that I am deploying within a month and just wanted to stay in touch on this since by far my favorite gun piece out of any movie/tv/video game ever

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

Got my kit today and it is a thing of beauty! It will be a little while before I can begin to assemble it but everyone that orders one of these (when they become available) is in for a real treat! I know Joe's work and the resin castings of these beautifully printed parts will be top notch, I am sure.

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

yes I am very much looking forward to mine, although its likely a bit away :)

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

So a few prototype kits are done? Can't wait to see come pictures!

Re: VERA KIT, (Firefly & Showtime)

Small update since I've been a bit quiet. I've printed all the master parts and am getting ready to send them to Shawn for assembly and molding.
