The unpainted one rusted by itself, so I did nothing. This is how you'll receive it.
The darker one I painted with satin gloss acrylic spray paint, and scraped it off a bit (not a good result yet, I want it to flake off rather than the scratched result). I then put it in a bowl with bleach and vinegar for 15 minutes (terrible smell!). I will redo it, because it doesn't resemble the original close enough yet.
