That was hilarious. My small town theater which is privately own doesn't allow babies after 6pm...Love Love Love that rule
That sounds amazing, haha. Like tonight I went to dinner at Marie Callenders and a baby was screeching like a ****ing rape whistle and was banging a metal spoon onto a plate.

Did the parents care?

While I totally agree that screaming kids in a cinema can be a nightmare, I think getting them into cinemas at an early age is important. Just not necessarily at the same time as everyone else. Family-friendly afternoon showings are a great way to get children to enjoy seeing movies on a big screen without inflicting them on other adult movie-goers.

Just a quick update - the owner hasn't returned to meet me and my crew to give the place an inspection- he called a few weeks ago to let me know he found the chairs for the place. To tell you the truth work has had my mind elsewhere lately but I still plan on seeing what's doing.

So I assume you recovered well from that heatstroke?

No. I'm still feeling it. I went to see saw bones and he told me it'll pass in a few more days. I've never had it before and I'll never be stupid enough to get it again.

Yeah, it only takes one go-around, eh? Nasty nasty thing, hope you feel 100% soon.

Re: So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

Man, I REALLY hope this comes off for you, we used to have a really cool old theatre / cinema where I live (I think it actually dated back to Victorian days), the powers that be decided to totally gut it out and make it "modern" what a TOTAL waste of all that history. I mean they ripped EVERYTHING out of it. Its now all neon and stuff, total discrace.

I'd love to live near somewhere where they played vintage and indie films. At the moment there's just 2 screens and they just seem to play random new films for 2 WEEKS at a time.

Re: So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

we had a great/sketchy local cinema that specialised in cult movies. barely renovated from the 1950s, with canvas beach chairs.

my grandmother took me to see Empire Strikes Back, and probably 12 years later, my father took me to a Goodfellas/ A Clockwork Orange double bill.

In all of the movies that I've seen over my life, those that I saw at that cinema have stuck with me.

so, good luck with the purchase

Re: So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

Great thread. Would love to see something like this happen. Those old buildings sure do have some style. Unlike modern architecture which just seems to be a whole bunch of straight lines. I don't care how 'ergonomic' or whatever BS 'new school' design offers, there's no denying that style and beauty has taken a back seat in recent times.
Here in Australia, I'm pretty sure we're mostly starved of anything like what you have/had over there in the USA, not to mention the UK, we're kind of boring here.

Re: So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

We go by there 2nd week of August to check it out and I'm snapping every pic I can so everyone here can vote on if I should buy it or not.

Re: So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

I already vote yes just reading this thread.

Of course, it's not my money. :lol

Re: So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

Could you make a trade Jet? Larry Young for the theater?:lol:lol

Re: So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

Jet Beetle: I don't know where it's located, and maybe you can find someone more local, but if it IS haunted, i'm willing to offer my services as an experienced exorcist. (not a joke post)

Re: So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

...and I can guarantee it stays haunted.

A haunted theater is going to bring in more interest than a non-haunted one.

Be reasonable.
