UPDATE* BOUGHT IT -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late 30s

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

JB - The big thing about haunted structures is to communicate with the ghosts. I'm not talking seances and meditation and crap but just go in there, alone, and address them directly. Tell them that you understand that this is their place too and you intend to respect them in their place. I used to pal around with a few ghost hunters years ago and they all say the same thing: ghosts tend to act like people in that if you go in and act like an a-hole they get pissed but if you go in and try to include them they tend to be a bit less resistive.

...and if hauntings are all in our imagination isn't that also a great was to imagine you just made peace with the imaginary things floating around?

I wish you a lot of luck and infinate patience in restoring the place. I live less than an hour from the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, NJ and they are in a constant state of fund raising and renovation. This theater of yours is going to be all consuming for a portion of your life if it becomes yours and, believe it or not, that may be a good thing.

A haunted porno theater, with a pool. Sounds awesome :lol

j/k

I hope it goes well, fingers crossed for you. And how can pics of a theater renovation not be appropriate for an entertainment forum?

How in the world did I miss a chance to make an off-hand remark about the ghost of Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) here?

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

We found out there's a standing Theater in Nebraska that is built to the exact plans ours was. The one in Nebraska is vacant and scheduled for demolition in March so we're working on buying the insides - gutting the entire thing and moving what we need down here. There's work being done, be it slow. I'll upload some pics once I get the ones taken under the floodlights - you can't really see anything any other way.

I don't know if it's been said yet, but show movies older than the 80's (they're not that old!).

I can't think of a better way to restore the place. That's awesome.

BTW, I have dozens of 80s trailers on 35mm just taking up space. They're yours for shipping cost if you want them.

What an awesome thread and an awesome adventure you've committed yourself to! I'll be following this one with great interest!
Classic cinema really is something of a dying art. If you could bring her back to her former glory... That would be sensational!

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

Wow just wow. I can't imagine how cool to own a theater AND to live there. I love how everyone here has the passion I do about movies. I have a collection of 55 of these, including a few of these these...
Let's all go to the lobby !!! - YouTube

Cheers!

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

Sorry I'm so late finding this awesome thread and I hope you find what I tell you informative. Don't be surprised if your ghostly activity increases while you're renovating and doing improvements to the theater. Ghosts don't like their environment being messed with. They like it just the way it is and just the way they knew it when they were alive. Don't think it's a sign of anything bad but think of it more like they are unsure of what's happening. Like someone else said much earlier in this thread, just politely let them know that it is your theater now and you'll be happy to coexist with them as long as they aren't intrusive. I also wouldn't rule out a residual haunting. This is where something is holding energy of a past event or series of events and it's just playing over like a video tape. If activity happens at a repeated rate and at a repeated time then all signs point to a residual haunting. You wouldn't have ghosts but the past is playing out in the present making it seem like you have ghosts. Good luck with your dream project, please keep us updated on the progress and also the ghostly activity.

Hi Jett, just found your thread.

Did everything work out? Do you have any updates on the project?
Did you manage to get to get the inside of the other theater?

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

Coming up on one year since your last post on this, Paul! What's the scoop? :)

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

A few weeks back I was going to update this post but couldn't find it - oh well.
Where to begin. Putting this place back together has been a chore even Superman or Bob the Builder may back down from - but we press on. We've had problems from plumbing to zoning and were actually forced to meet with city officials concerning lines of people who may jam up the front of other businesses - course this has NOTHING to do with the fact that a Starbucks is right down the street and I turned down their offer to buy the place from me. The best of luck happened during renovation we found a number of odd closets in the back room as well as notebooks (all damaged and waterlogged) that clued us in that the building was originally a firehouse before it was converted into a theatre and more exciting was that the upstairs sound room was once a recording studio where foley work was done when they would show silent movies in the 30's - we even found some scripts syced on when certain sounds were required during certain movies. I was lucky enough to have Carroll stop by before he passed and amazingly he'd been there when it was still an operating movie house - (he thought he saw The Dirty Dozen there). We've located two working projectors that we are trying to buy but the real thing that has slowed us down is city hall - Houston doesn't want an old time theatre near downtown - especially a privately owned one. The traffic we'd see for showing Raiders or the original Unaltered Star Wars scares them because it would take away form the countless dime a dozen entertainment places right up the road - I can't see a screening of Superman vs The Mole Men robbing from Dave and Busters or Marble Slab - but they can. We've also landed our hands on rows of seating from a sister theatre built in Kansas City (not Nebraska as I thought before) at around the same time - the theatre was torn down last year and we salvaged a big part of their innards. Right now my place is pretty much gutted and waiting for me to throw more money into the pit - hopefully this next batch of cash will lead to construction and not deconstruction. I'll update you guys as soon as news happens.

And BTW - The place is haunted. Every single person we've had work there has some story to tell.

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

That...RULES!!!

You need to start a pair of Facebook pages: one for the Theater Restoration and one for all the Ghost stories! Please!!!

Sorry the City Hall are beign a bunch of jerks about all this. There's got to be a way of turning that around on them.

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

haunting experience....

Re: UPDATE* SALE PENDING -So I've been offered an old movie theatre built in the late

Yeah, I wonder how jacked up seeing "Stir of Echoes" in that theater would be?
