This is a scan from the latest Star Wars Insider.

How is the control box so far up? The gear section appears to have a smooth surface, and the pommel looks like something entirely different from the traditional AS handwheel. Yet, the emitter and grenade body appear to be the standard type as seen on the Chronicles hero. If the emitter is a Derwent balance pipe, then the rod must be attached to the windvein neck...

Check the recent threads about the stunt Obi/ Luke saber(s).

There´s pretty good and detailed information about what different sabers were used and how they were set up. Make sure to check the thread about the new Star Wars book as well, GREAT SCANS ;)

The saber you posted is not based on a classic Obi (grenade/ bp) setup:

I would guess this to be the same as this saber,

These pix appear in the upcoming The Making of Star Wars by J. W Rinzler. I have a review copy and did some scanning. I posted these a month ago, you must have missed them.

Yep, those are all the V2 lightsaber prop as it appeared in ANH.
There's nothing securing the clamp to the saber body so it spins around and can slide up.
The bubble strip fell out sometime during the duel.

I have seen interviews that state that some of the sabers had a mechanism in them that would allow the blade to rotate(spin) with the reflective tape on them and that would make the blade give off a "pulsing" type of glow. Doe anyone know about such a thing?

Correct the saber above is like that.
The whole head/emitter of that saber spun and it had a square rod blade attached (two sides covered in Scotchlite). They then shot the dueling scenes through a half-silvered mirror to intensify the light reflected from the spinning blade.
The effect didn't work that well so they didn't use it after ANH.

Thanks for the clarification, guys.

I had no idea there was an Obi-Wan ANH V2. The thought the shared stunt was the only stunt used for the Obi ANH.

That saber he's got resting against his shoulder looks a lot like the Luke ROTJ V2. It even looks like it has the wire going into the control box.

great scans probe droid. I must have missed those the first time around. I'm looking forward to seeing this book.

Yeah, it was used later for the Luke v2. Same saber.
