"Drakes Journal" hitting bookstores on November 1st...Dont get too excited, its just a "making of.." book.

Still picking it up though.

Hey I'm back been a long time almost a year ^^ was too busy to work on the journal, anyways I went on a shopping spree yesterday and got a lot of the stuff I needed, still going to have to visit an art store to get a few bits and bobs.

I also made a dubloon out of polymer clay, and Im pretty pleased with it, obvioulsy its not an amazing 1:1 replica with amazing detail but I feel its good enough:

Still needs to be covered in gold leaf, but its lookin pretty dapper i think.

Also managed to pick up some sepia markers, all i need now is the ink and i can get to work .


Also Darth I dont suppose you still have the scaled journal pages you used to trace the images onto your moleskin? If not thats ok, its just to save me trying to skew all the pages in photoshop then scale them apropriately to size.

My god, he wasn't kidding.

I played about an hour of the game and there are already 30 pages worth of intricate sketches and art.
There's also T.E. Lawrence's journal.

Yeah, Ill definitely give it a go.

THe only real problem I see is the text on the Drake museum brochure on the 2nd page (Some of the words are so tiny, I cant even make out what they say).

And the T.E Lawrece newspaper clippings are also very hard to make out.

So, Ive been playing the game and the journals confuse me. Theres drakes journal but then theres cutters journal as well AND lawrences right? I actually have no idea if what im posting is correct or not but i really do need finish the game first...

from the glance we get, I'm going to say that Cutter's journal has the same contents as Drake's.
I'm sure it's meant to have it's own but when they flipped through it, I KNOW I saw the same pages from Drake's.

Ok that makes sense, I guess Naughty Dog wouldnt make a whole new journal just for one part where its flipped through. But theres also T.E Lawrences journal right? I finally beat the game so tomorrow i'll go back through the game and maybe get some screencaps.

Once again, it was hard to tell if the journal was black or blue...It seemed blue whenever he took it out.

Just through playing in uncharted 2/3 its safe to say that the journal is indeed a navy/dark blue.

Also I've finally got to the stage where I am about to begin staining all the pages of the journal a light sepia water mix. I have already tried one page at the back and can confirm Your exccelent technique.

I added about 10 or 12 drops of acrylic sepia ink into a diffuser already with some water in (see image below for final result) and then spray the mist onto kitchen paper, or toilet roll (If you use toilet roll I would suggest changing to a fresh clump frequently as the water will cause it to tear much quicker than kitchen roll) Then carefully smear your kitchen/toilet roll across the page (this works well if you mixture is very light i.e not a dark sepia, just a light tan) then once you have done that and the page dried you can dab the page in certain areas for a better result and a more aged look.

Also Darth I'd be more than happy to work with you and any others to create a replica of drakes journal from Uncharted 3. Im actually contemplating combining the two into one "mega journal" as from what I can tell the jornal nate uses in U2 is the same one he uses in U3 (going by colour at least)

Looks like your journal is coming along nicely.

As for the Journal in U3, im pretty sure it's not the same journal as in U2 (Although it would be cool to combine the two).
This journal in U3 seems to be a soft cover and not quite as thick as the original. Looks at the spine when he opens it.
Moleskine does sell a version of this journal that is virtually identical to the one in the game (but once again, they dont sell it in a blue version...only black.)

Also, Drake seemed to have this journal when he was a kid, so it would mean most of the early Drake information would have been entered into the journal before the information in U2.

I also noticed that when they show cutters journal, it has the graph lines, and then later those same pages are seen in Drakes journal (with the graph lines as well.).
Im guessing Drake pasted the pages into his own journal ?
