Uncharted 2: Among Theives

Hey guys...I have started making one of these journals, but I ran into a bit of a problem. I cannot get the paper in the moleskine book to age using DARTH SABER's technique involving sepia ink in an atomizer. Does anyone have any tips on aging the journal's pages?!

That is indeed the phurba from the Shadow I have one of those myself. Did it come without a stand? The one I got was in a box with a wooden stand and a 'The Shadow' coin. It's an excellent stand in for the Uncharted phurba though!

I know that coffee dosen't work well. I should be able to get some sepia ink to try Darth's method tommorow. I can post some tips that might help then.

How are you doing it?

You need to experiment with the mixture of water and sepia ink until you get just the right color...Not too opaque and not too translucent. Just enough to give the paper that splochy weathered look.

Did you spray it into a paper towel and dab it or smear on the paper?

Maybe I should just let the best of all weather my pages…time. I figure Nate didn't use any sepia or anything on his journal so it will be even more screen accurate! :lol
I can finally do some real work on the journal now!

Pics of the failed sepia attempts? I didn't use my journal just printer paper which I threw away… Darth sent me a helpful tip on how to do it though. Just start with water and add a little ink until you get the right color. Im going to try again today using that method.

I have no idea how Darth made his pages look like that… I tried again but all I got was brown not weathered looking. I also managed to mess up the paint on my journal and have to paint it again.

Hi guys, I've been following this thread for a bit and am just wondering...if this is a journal Nathan kept on his adventure, why would the pages be aged? Wouldn't they just be sort of dirty and scuffed a bit from repeated use...sort of grimy looking?

I'm assuming he used a new journal and filled it out as he went along.

I think just some of the older pages from other books, etc. that get glued in would need to be aged no?

Just my 2 cents.

Yes, the pages are basically weathered and dirty, not really aged....But then again, there really is no visual difference.

I have absolutely no clue why your pages are coming out "brown".
From my experience with ink, if you add water it WILL inherently get lighter and more translucent in color. The more water you add, the lighter it should get. Without water it should be a dark brown, then with more water added - brown- lighter brown- dark tan- tan- light tan- etc.

It seems your ink must be deifying the laws of physics, because INK should get lighter when you add more water.

Are you sure you're spraying the watered down ink on a paper towel and dabbing it on the pages?

Not spraying just putting the ink and water in a bowl and dabbing a paper towel in the mixture. I don't think spraying it should make much of a difference.

You're not supposed to do it like that.
The paper towel soaks up a crapload of ink when you dip it directly into the bowl, and also drenches the paper which causes it to majorly warp.
The point of the spray bottle is to control he amount of ink being absorbed by the paper towel.

Ok that makes sense. I picked up a spray bottle and will try weathering the pages again.
