Ultimate Spider-man Suit: WIP (Pictures and progress inside!)

Holy bouncing balls, Batman! I cannot wait to get my costume started. As difficult as this whole process seems, it looks like something that everyone is enjoying (at least the end result) :) keep up the great work guys :)

It can be challenging and daunting at times. But because of the build threads and overall knowledgeable community, it's totally possible. One thing I'll advice you on is to enjoy the building stage. It's the most fun, at least for me. Much more than wearing the suit. I've learned so much during this process.

Good luck!

Haha, I dunno, man, I find wearing the suit WAY more fun than building it. :)

Haha. I can totally see that on your thread. Probably because you're already fit enough to wear and look so good on it, man. I'm still trying to lose weight. I'm sure I'll have as much fun as you do when I'm fit enough to do the suit justice.

Hi Raiden, thanks for the awesome tutorial and detailed explanation... im just having a problem with the measuring, Im also 5'3 or 5'4, i did what you explained here but im not very confident i did it right.

thanks in advance.... i hope my costume looks as cool as yours too.
I might be wrong man, but in the image size, you've got the height and width in centimetres. I think you have to to change that to inches.

That's a good catch.

, make sure you have the measurement size set to inches if you plan to use my measuring method. Otherwise, your pattern might be very small. Your measuring method is correct though.

Hey mate, quick question... I remember you saying you got your print with an extra mask. Did you have to pay FOD extra because of this? After I submitted my order I got an invoice for another $37.50 for the extra Lycra.
Just thought I'd ask as I haven't heard of this in any threads

This is standard, yes. You always have to pay for the yardarge of fabric being used--the normal file uses less yardage than the file with the extra mask.

The pattern I got had the extra mask at the bottom. When I measured it, it fit on 3-yards of Lycra. So I didn't have to pay for anything else other than that. Basically, FOD charges per yard of fabric, not per print. Although they have this offer for a set price to print your hero-suit pattern. But even that goes by yard. Your print probably was longer than the yardage you paid for. I'm uncertain though. You can always call them and ask. They're very friendly and willing to answer your questions.

Thanks for clarifying, Lunaman.

Cheers Luna! That makes sense. Looking at my file again there is obviously gonna be extra material needed for the mask. Rookie mistake again ha.

Thanks for the reply Raiden. Yeah FOD have been very helpful, and after looking at the file again it seems they're right. I would think the reason you only needed 3 yards and I'm needing 4 is due to our height. I think I saw you were 5'3 and I'm 6'0.
Thanks again for the help guys [emoji16]

Yep. I saved some cash just by being short. Haha. Good luck on your build.

Hey man your thread helped me a lot. I've wanted to make a Spidey suit for a long time and was unsure about the measurements since I'm the same height as you. Is there anything you would modify in the file if you had to make another one now you know how it fits?

Hey, glad my thread helped you out. If I had to re-do this again, I'll go for 26in distance between the middle of the mask and the belt. The suit fits me and I can get in to it. But I feel like it will be a bit more comfortable if there's more wiggle room. I've honestly been debating in selling my 1st completed suit to remake it.

No really related to this suit, but I didn't want to make a new thread about this because it's something minor.

I've been testing my skills on puff painting using Ken's free ASM2 pattern. I got really good at it.

I realized too freaking late that the red parts of ASM2 aren't puffy painted! I've worked so hard and it's almost finished... so many hours later.

Take note of my mistake - research first before anything to avoid wasting time and effort. Nonetheless, I'm extremely satisfied with my work. No regrets because it was such a relaxing thing to do.

Edit: This is only the mask that I'm puff painting. Not the whole suit.

you free handing or using a applicator tip?
where i see you are at... if you are not happy with it ... is it worth spending 300$ on getting it sewn???
On another note it will be unique since no one else will do it your way...

I use an applicator tip and a small bottle. It helps a lot with the control. And I forgot to clarify on my post that this is only the mask. I probably won't get this sewn. I was more interested in learning how to puff paint. And it was a nice learning experience. I didn't know I had that much patience in me...

As a side note, my next project will be an ASM2 suit using Ken's file. But not until this Ultimate Spider-man suit gets sold. If anyone's interested in it, let me know. It's also posted at the Junkyard.

Hi RaidenTyler! Thank you for walking through your progress. I do have a follow up question if you don't mind.

In post 33 and post 34 you outline the method you used for your soles. I want to make sure I understand this correctly. In terms of separate objects making up your particular shoe there was the outer sole, the inner sole, and the shoe material.

With regards to the outer sole, you removed this from the shoe in your first steps. The outer sole makes an appearance in the last photo where you show the suit on your foot while holding up the outer sole underneath. Did you do anything with this outer sole or was it just a for show photo?

Being green, I'm wondering how you walk around. From the looks of it, the modified shoe you made is inside the suit and you walk around with the suit making contact with the ground, nothing on the outside?

So from my understanding:
1) Separate the outer sole, inner sole, and shoe material (outer sole no longer used)
2) Sew the inner sole and shoe material together to make a modified shoe
3) Wear the new modified shoe while wearing the suit over top the shoe

I believe I'm missing something as in your posts you mention E6000, a glue. What's being glued to what?
