Ultimate Spider-man Suit: WIP (Pictures and progress inside!)

Hi RaidenTyler! Thank you for walking through your progress. I do have a follow up question if you don't mind.

In post 33 and post 34 you outline the method you used for your soles. I want to make sure I understand this correctly. In terms of separate objects making up your particular shoe there was the outer sole, the inner sole, and the shoe material.

With regards to the outer sole, you removed this from the shoe in your first steps. The outer sole makes an appearance in the last photo where you show the suit on your foot while holding up the outer sole underneath. Did you do anything with this outer sole or was it just a for show photo?

Being green, I'm wondering how you walk around. From the looks of it, the modified shoe you made is inside the suit and you walk around with the suit making contact with the ground, nothing on the outside?

So from my understanding:
1) Separate the outer sole, inner sole, and shoe material (outer sole no longer used)
2) Sew the inner sole and shoe material together to make a modified shoe
3) Wear the new modified shoe while wearing the suit over top the shoe

I believe I'm missing something as in your posts you mention E6000, a glue. What's being glued to what?

Thanks for reading. I further explained how I attached the soles to the suit in post #78 to #79. What I did was I used E6000 to attach the soles to the suit. I wasn't satisfied with the way it turned out so I used a sewing awl to sew the outer soles to the fabric of the suit. It wasn't very easy and it took quite some time to sew it. This is because the outer sole is hard and you have to sew at an angle. If you're planning to sew the outer soles, I suggest taking it slow because you may break a needle (like I did).

Ah, I missed those 2. That explains a whole lot, thank you. Based on your experience I'll be going the sewing route so I'll definitely take your tips and go slow with it.

Greetings, everyone!

RaidenTyler here. I have been a long time lurker here at the RPF. First, I want to say that a lot of you inspired me to pickup the hobby of cosplaying or making costumes in general. This will be my first costume build and I decided to go with Ultimate Spider-man Suit.

I bought a pattern from the very talented Orhadar. He has been helpful in instructing me how to resize the pattern to my height. The pattern by default will fit anyone from 5'9'' to 6'1''. I'm 5'3''... very short for the default size. So there was work to be done.

Resizing the Pattern:

  • First, I measured the distance between the MIDDLE of the mask and the BOTTOM of the belt using the Ruler Tool in Photoshop.
  • The default distance of this is 29'' (for someone who is 5'9'' to 6'1''). And since I'm only 5'3'', I need to subtract 6''.
  • The way I resized the pattern was I went to Image -> Image Size. On the Document Size portion, I noticed that the Width and Height linked (when I change width the height changes too). I kept them linked because that's how they were sent to me.
  • The problem is, even if I subtract 6inches to the height, the distance between the middle of the mask and the bottom of the belt doesn't become 23inches. So I did trial and error until I achieved the distance of 25inches. I subtracted a total of 15inches from the size of the pattern. Please see the picture below:

I decided 25inches because when I make the preview 100% and put my hand up against the computer screen to measure the gloves, I find 23inches very small for my hands. Even 25inches seems small to me. Or is that normal?

Please let me know if what I did was correct in terms of resizing the pattern. I want to be sure I did it correctly so people can refer back to this thread if they want to resize their patterns. And I also want the suit to fit me... And if you have any tips on how you resized your patterns, please let me know as well. I will greatly appreciate it.

I'm waiting for TJack to come out with the new lenses and faceshell combo. I will also utilize TrophyWife's services in having the suit sewn together. I will regularly update this thread when I make progress on my suit.

Thank you so much for your patience and attention.
Can u help me resizing mine

Hi RaidenTayler

No really related to this suit, but I didn't want to make a new thread about this because it's something minor.

I've been testing my skills on puff painting using Ken's free ASM2 pattern. I got really good at it.

I realized too freaking late that the red parts of ASM2 aren't puffy painted! I've worked so hard and it's almost finished... so many hours later.

You show the picture of Ken`s mask,,, I`d like to ask you a question if you don`t mind ....... did you have to re-sized the file of this separated mask??
I don`t have photoshop, what I have is Jasc Paint Pro Shop, and when I open the file of this mask, the current imege information in inches is 92.542x65.833 .....way to big... why?
ok, I think I have to re-size, what is the correct size for this single mask ,,, anyone?? Thanks a lot !!!
