UK bans the import of *anything remotely harmful*...

Re: The UK bans Replica Firearms/props...

Basically, if any of those three things are the only ways to tell it's fake, it's not fake enough.

Re: UK bans import of replica firearms...

So how many are beat up by thugs??

How many are maimed and crippled by club wielding thugs??

You live with a lot of strong arm rule of might.

We don't have as much for the guy they are jumping might have a firearm.

Our early history showed how that used to work.

A early qoute: "God may have created men as equals, but Sam Colt made it a reality."

Rich

But those guys wouldn't be armed with clubs, they'd be armed with guns, and they already have a drop on you, 'cos you don't they're gonna mug you. I'd sooner take a beating than a bullet.

Guy is gonna kife you, that blade is in your gut before you even get your hand in your pocket.

In most stabbings, the guy has fled before you even realize you've been gutted.

Re: The UK bans Replica Firearms/props...

he modifies an imitation firearm so that it becomes a realistic imitation firearm;

:confused

So what are they they saying here? Don't turn a nerfino a beretta?

Re: The UK bans Replica Firearms/props...

(2) For the purposes of this section, an imitation firearm is not (except by virtue of subsection (3)(b)) to be regarded as distinguishable from a real firearm for any practical purpose if it could be so distinguished only-

(a) by an expert;
(b) on a close examination; or
(c) as a result of an attempt to load or to fire it.
Can anyone translate this into Englsh?
Broadly speaking, it means if a 'casual observer' were to look at it and even think it could possibly be real, it'll be deemed illegal to manufacture or import.

Re: The UK bans Replica Firearms/props...

Just out of interest what about the 1000's of replicas that could fall under those descriptions that are already here will they become illegal to own ?
What about the replicas that dealers have in stock will these people be given compensation for losing their livelyhood ?
Has a firm date been given yet for when this ban comes into force ?

Re: UK bans import of replica firearms...

Here is a funny thing, ask a criminal what scares him and most will say, “ A armed citizen.”
And even if they gets the knife in first you still can blow his brains out before he can get away.
And there is two things we are talking about here, self defense and keeping America free.
I am very aware that if I have gun with me and meet up with a mugger, it ONLY gives me a chance to scare or fight him off.
Only a chance, but with out a gun I am a baby in the hands of tornado, most of us are not the equal of a mugger, someone who has perhaps harden his body and mind to take lots of hits and is most likely a dirty street fighter.
Sam Colt only made it a possibility of equality.
Also a good knife cut can really kill you, you can be sliced open from side to side and NO Doctor can save you, a bullet hole, stick a finger in and walk to the Doctor…
I will take the gun shot.

Rich, we're talking about the UK, not the US.You could no more impose guns on the British than you could take them away from Americans.

No. But that's the next step if we let this ban come into effect...

Dealers won't lose their livelihood. They'l be able to sell replicas/airsoft weapons to "licenced" airsofters only not prop collectors.

Oct 2007.

Re: UK bans import of replica firearms...

There is a way to 'petition' the government informally but it will need some serious thought on how it should be worded. Any old 'gizourgunzback' message will not do (so don't do it).

Most petitions of this type are normally flatly rejected but it can't hurt to raise awareness, right?

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/

Can we discuss the way forward with this aspect at least?

Or not. It's really up to you guys. I will have bought all my grail fireams well before October. I don't build blasters, troop, re-enact or skirmish so, ultimately, I won't care. If you don't act (as a group) - you're screwed. :rolleyes

And don't say I didn't warn you...

Re: UK bans import of replica firearms...

Okay, I have submitted a petition. Once it is approved and online, I will post threads on any forums I can find, and email every replica company or store I can get the email of!

The submitted text reads:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Consider an
exemption from banning replica firearms for hobbyists

The current legislation to ban anything resembling a replica
gun will have serious implications for many law-abiding
citizens who collect replica or real movie props as a hobby.

This hobby has existed peacefully for many years now, and is an
increasingly popular section of movie memorabilia collecting.

Since the government has seen fit to grant an exemption to
airsoft players, I propose a similar system for prop collectors
and costumers?

Would it not be possible to create a licencing system for
peaceful people who just want to continue a much loved hobby?

Re: UK bans import of replica firearms...

Sorry, but that won't work (which is why I suggested the need to discuss it first). They'll just dismiss it out of hand.

They need to be given a valid reason why we should be allowed to continue to collect them. In Joe Public's eye, we don't have a valid reason like skirmishers do.

Re: UK bans import of replica firearms...

From the ABA homepage:

TonyMcnulty.jpg

Airsofters have it sorted.

However...

The ABA asked the government about collectors, practical pistol and other disciplines. The answer was a straight answer - no!

Skirmishers (which was what the ABA was set up to try to save) came up with a reason why they should have RIFs, the collectors didn't.

:( It's looking grim, folks.

Re: UK bans import of replica firearms...

To give a valid reason as to why we collect prop, prop replica guns/weapons is quite a hard question to answer, if not impossible.

Those in the airsoft community have a very good valid reason, they use their airsoft replica guns for skirmishing, without them, they don't have
a hobby or as it is also refered to, a sport, you can't play football without a football.

What is my valid reason for owning most of the blasters from the Star Wars films ????? or the blaster from Blade Runner ???? apart from display
purposes i don't really have one, its not as if i need them for skirmishing, we might as well ask what valid reason a person has for collecting stamps, paintings or beanie bears ????

For us as collectors, it boils down to one thing, we collect/display for personal enjoyment, which in the eyes of our illustrious, left wing government, just isn't a valid reason.

As from October, it looks as if we are up the creek without a paddle and will be forced into buying/trading out of the law.

Prepare to be tarred with the same brush as the bank robbers, gangbangers and drug dealers, a new breed of criminal will be created due to our governments legislation, THE TOY GUN COLLECTOR.

Re: UK bans import of replica firearms...

What about the collectors and reenactors of Civil Wars, WWI and WWII ?
They can´t continue with their hobbies either once the ban is in effect.

What about the dealers that have specialised in those weapons ?

What about costumers in various areas, especially in the field of Anime and Manga costumers with an ever growing number of fans ? Many of them are underage, so won´t know about the ban on replica weapons, hence becoming criminals when unknowingly manufacturing those and taking them to a convention.

What about collectors of vintage toy guns of the last 100 years ?

Ridiculous, really :\
