Turning Busts into 1:1 lifesize statues

Hey guys,

I have seen pictures of some really great life size standups here on the RPF, whether it be Trap Joe's gorgeous ANH Vader, or some other Arnie Terminators, to Hecubus114's near perfect Ledger standup.

I am looking to spice up my collection with a few. It only hit me recently that most of these pieces are just wearable costumes on a dummy.

As an aside, I would probably need to settle on UBER cheap versions, maybe even settling for a cheapie rubies costume. (I know, I know. I am not in the majority here but I am willing to settle for close enough, or even recognizable when times are tough :lol)

Does anyone have any advice about posing, what manaquins to use, particularly tall ones, etc?

I have pieced together some ifo, but it might be nice to have it all in one place. Thanks in advance.

Re: Advice for 1:1 life size busts/statues.

Been pretty lonely in this thread. I just changed the topic to cover a new question I had. I have noticed some members have attached busts to mannequins to make them statues. Can anyone chime in with ways to do this? Is it as simple as carving the mannequin and gluing the bust?

Hello
I have some producced life sized inn my collectionn.
I alaso usually check Craigs list and you can always find mannequins locally (no shipping!) cheaply!

Some of the mannequins are old style but, all I do is
take a dremmel and cuut the head off and sometimes part of the chest area.

Till the p[ainteed bust fits in the hole, Then, take a long screw and drill thru the neck area of the bust annd into the mannequin.

There is no worries as the busts are light weight and youre not going to be playing with the head anyway.

Then just play dressup and wal la!

Many time the mannequins have old style hands that the fingers hhave no space between the fingers. If you check ebay, they sell just hands many times and even if they do not fit, just duct tape the hand to the wrist of your mannequin as the costume will cover the tape anyway.

If your charcter has gloves on, you can actually make hands chheaply with coat hanger and a piece of wood, the fingeer that way are posable too! to hold a gun, etc.

Hope this help, by the way, I find them on craigs list from stores going out of busineess etc. some want top dollar, dont pay it, move on to another area. i pay usually $50 or less sometimes.

good luck!
Tom

For my own mannequins, I prefer the headless type poseable or foam over wire style mannequins. The bust heads if trimmed properly will slip right down over the neck/shoulders nicely on the mannequin. Creating decent hands is another issue altogether.
