New Projects: Gentle Giant Busts and Statues.

Been lucky recently to have scored some nice busts and statues for cheap, so I'm going to mod the hell out of them. Just because I can and because I think there's room for improvement.

First, I'm going to rework the Grand Moff Tarkin bust into a full figure statue and will likely have to cut and re-position the arms, then sculpt the legs and paint the whole thing:

Then, seeing as I disliked the pose of the C-3PO statue, I decided to get that as well as the bust (still need to buy the bust, but waiting for a cheap one to pop up), then I hope the gold finish is similar enough to do a torso transplant, basically swap the upper torsos on both by sawing both in half in the black mid-section, swap 'em over, resculpt the ab section, paint it and that would give the statue the torso of the bust and the bust the torso of the statue (then I can always re-sell the bust with the new torso for scrap or use it as a test subject for a wild and out of control paint job)

Lastly, I acquired this Mal Reynolds bust to modify. Chose a scene from Firefly with a nice pose that sorta matches this one. This piece likely require the most work as both arms need to be re-positioned and the gun arm needs to be shortened. The jacket and shirt needs some serious rework and then the sculpting of the legs. I will try to commission a new head sculpt, once I've stripped the paint and cut off the arms as the current one looks like a 16-year-old Nathan Fillion and I need a scruffy looking nerf-herder look to him (yeah, I know... wrong series).

All in all... I've got my work cut out for me. But, it's gonna be fun to try to modify these.

The cool thing about the Tarkin bust is that I think the likeness if fairly good, but the paint application just throws it. I may not be able to paint it any better than they did... but the bonus will be when it's on display next to my sixth scale Vader when that gets done.

Am shopping for a stripping agent right now... and can't wait to get cracking. The torso transplant could turn out either positively cool or utter disaster. Hoping for the best.

YES, just scored the C-3PO bust late last night. This may be the first of the projects I get finished, seeing as minimal work is needed compared to the others. May re-position the head on the statue, but that means I have to figure out how to do the gold / chrome on the neck, as that will probably have to be cut and trimmed.

Is it just me, or does the Mal Reynold's bust look really wrong on the hair? In most pictures, Fillion's hair is parted from left to write but with long strokes. That bust shows his hair parted from right to left, and close-cut.

Yes, the hair is all wrong. That will have to be fixed. Still debating whether I want a full head sculpt with hair or just bald and I could do the hair myself.

Depending on whether I choose Firefly or Serenity version, his hair is parted differently. But, regardless of whether version, the bust is just too neat and flat.

Just got the Threepio bust this morning, so I can basically start with that one first. Have to finish some other stuff first, so it may be a while before I show an update.

It won't be my perfect preferred pose, but close enough. His legs and "shorts" suggest that he's turning towards the left, but his torso is placed pretty straight ahead. I may rework that when combining the bust torso with the legs, so that he has a bit of a turn in his body. May also cut off the head, re-sculpt the neck and wrap it with bare metal foil, so he doesn't look so static.

Gonna be nice to see if it's possible to get it to look good. But hey... if all else fails... it will be a great experiment.

Got the Tarkin bust. It is doable. Having other projects that needs finishing first, but they are progressing nicely and should be over and done with before this month is over.

My tiny saw is gonna have some work cut out for it... can't wait. Gonna be great to see this come together. Also decided to add legs to my Maul bust, have a JY post about parts needed for that.

Anyone remember the post of that full scale damaged C-3PO torso bust that was shown off here once? Can't seem to find it. Plan to perhaps turn the sawed off statue upper torso into something like that.
