TrooperTrent Holiday Special Lightsaber Series

Hey, my kit came today, too! Thank you to Trooper_trent for putting this together. Now let’s all post updated (or recently finished) pics of our new sabers!

I see that the new box is slightly smaller than the old one. I’ll have to redrill the hole for the screw that holds it in place. I may also replace the faux transistor/button with aluminum rod.

Yes, based on the improved photo reference we now have, it is slightly smaller as well as not quite as tall.

Yeah super weird. Apparently it was a backup for Han in ROTJ and has since been used for tours, exhibits and... Al Roker?

That gives me hope that my Linhof version I was going to do can be fairly accurate then if there's such an odd one like that out there. Regardless, I love this saber and maybe will get to it one day. Great job on the kits for it. I think it would be perfect to hang on my Christmas tree every year, lol.

for sure. There's more weirdness going on with that droid caller than just the box. The entire thing looks weird and definitely not the standard kobold as far as I can tell so it's fair game for a linhof version for sure!

I got my kit! It will be expertly finished by Danny soon. I hope he uses mine for a video. Wink wink

You got it dude!! My payment is slowly working it’s way to trent, so I don’t have my parts yet. Dying to see these

Oh man, I hope that since the box is smaller that my screw holes wont be exposed on the graflite when putting on the smaller box... :( I had to attach it that way since my switch for the electronics was in the middle.

Wait a minute... hold the phone. I was just re-reading this thread and I noticed something. Is that a strip below the control box without gaffer tape on it? And it looks to be in the reference pics, too? Does that mean there is no piece of t-track centered below the control box?
Halliwax, Trent, any thoughts?
I need to take a breather. I don’t think I can handle reworking this entire prop now. But I probably will anyway, just like I said I wouldn’t make it in the first place.;)

No. It's light hitting the duller finish of the tape. We thought there were some areas that were black and some that were unpainted aluminum but they change positions in each shot so it's not consistent. That lends evidence to the thought that it's dull/textured black with light reflecting off of it at different angles.

Agree with Trent, remember those late video chat nights sharing at blurry pictures Trent?! Lol fun times

Oh thank the maker! Good, I’m glad I’m not seeing things. Or at least that I’m seeing the same things that you both are seeing.

I just want to chime in and say, amazing kit!
Trent's modeling skill continues to amaze me, and the clamp box section looks so accurate.

I'm just glad one of my 'blurry' pictures from the exhibit was a help :D
I almost didn't take this pic because it was a weird angle

Dude I was SO stoked to see that pic in your camera roll that you posted. NOBODY has pics of it. it's been staring us in the face this whole time.
Now to find out what the hell it is!

If it does, send me pics and lets see if we can figure out a solution. If you're ok with the size being tweaked I can resize it and make you a custom one that fits your old set up. I'd hate for you to have done all of that work and then it not look right.

Ugh, if I only knew the importance of that part when I visited!!
I would've done all sorts of yoga poses to get better shots lol

I'm sure this will be on display again in 2022 Lucas Museum,
But I really wish we can identify this mystery part along with ROTJ Vader 'MoM' clamp box.

I posted this over in the FB prop group, but I'll post it here so there's more eyes on it. When I look at this pic:

...and now knowing it is a camera-related thing, I was wonder what might have that curved underside. It occurred to me that it might be a light rigging device.

Here's a modern one:

Basically, when you do stage light rigging for movies, theaters, concerts, etc, most of the time above the stage there is a grid of aluminum pipes hung from cables. Idea beaing that you can clamp a light on anywhere on that grid and adjust as needed. If the piece we're seeing on the kobold above was the upper half to something meant to be tightened around a pipe and the top side was a light or camera mount, I think it could this sort of device from the 70s. It certainly would have been readily available on a soundstage.
