TRON: Uprising - Tron's Encom 0.82 Black Lightcycle from "Scars"

This is mostly a repaint with a few custom changes to it.

After watching "Scars" and seeing Tron and his team with their Black Lightcycles I decided to take my discolored Legacy K. Flynn lightcycle by SpinMaster and give it a repaint to look like this:
imagezzm.jpg

My plan:
- Break down all components for paint
- Mask off areas not to be painted
- fill body gap on canopy
- Paint Gloss black
- Hand paint 0.82 in Red
- Paint Clearcoat then wetsand
- Polish
- Paint rear section Chrome
- Add reflective details to mimic headlight and the triangle area around the 0.82 designation

What I've done so far:
Breakdown and masking

Here you can see the two different colors of the white plastic

Filling the gaps on the canopy.

I never liked these gaping holes in the front of the lightcycle so I did a quick and easy fill using tape as a barrier and hot glue as a filler. Just put the tape on to follow the contour and then filled in from the back with hot glue.

I got a little anxious to shoot the clear on it and totally forgot to paint on the "0.82" but I can always put it on top of the clear.

Did have a little snafu with the canopy when I cleared it. The clear on the top began to crinkle so I let it dry then sanded and it took of a couple chips of black so I'm gonna have to respray the black and clear it again.

The Wet Look Gloss Main body. I put the wheel next to it to show the reflection.

More progress on the 0.82 and adding light reflective tape.
handpainted on the tiny 0.82 in TRON font as best I could. First pic is without a flash and second is with the flash giving the reflective tape action.

getting the reflective headlight decal all painted up. Here the left side of the decal just has horizontal lines making separations and the right side has a "box" area painted for the separations.

I went with the "box" style to more emulate the tiny LED type headlights you see on the cycle.

Finished pics coming soon....

Funny you're doing this. This can also count as a replica of the Black Lightcycle seen on Sam's shelf in TRON: Legacy. Can't wait to check out the end results.

Looks good. If you want to make more than one watch Big Lots if you have one around you, they had the cycles for 4.99.

Thanks guys, I'm having fun with it.

CB2001, I was originally going to do the one from Legacy which is almost the same scheme, just in all flat black. But when I saw the episode of "Scars" and Tron in a "vintage" glossy black lightcycle...I knew what had to be done. ;)

Wes R,
Thanks, I actually have been stocking up on them from BigLots. I have 4 right now. The next one is going to be a Yellow and Black theme to mimic the scheme of my favorite lightcycle from Tron '82.

Got the canopy repainted and ready to go!

now to get this sucker back together!

You still can do the Legacy version. I myself have been planning to do the Legacy one myself. :cool

I most likely will do the Legacy version. I had fun with this one and a Flat Black one will be even easier. I'm wanting to even repaint one with a nice coat of white paint since the whites don't seem to match from the body to the canopy.

So on the list after this one:

-Yellow vintage
-Gloss White
-Flat Black
and maybe
-Gloss Red vintage

That's an awesome list. I know of a few users who have done the retro-colors of Yellow, Orange and Red (the lightcycle colors of TRON, Flynn and Ram in the first film), and they look awesome on them. Honestly, the funniest one I've seen is where someone made a General Lee light cycle (basically, painted a lightcycle the orange/red color of the General Lee and used the 1:25 scale General Lee nametag, rebel flag and 01 decals for it). I've toyed with doing the same retro-color Lightcycles as well, but I'm just sticking for the Legacy flat-black LC.

In fact, I've been planning on doing some customized action figures (bascially headswaps for the Sam, Quorra and CLU figures, do the Legacy TRON figure (without mask, of course), and even a few real world characters).

Haha, I've seen an artists render of a lightcycle as: The General Lee, The A-Team van and Herbie the Love Bug, but never seen an actual done up cycle...cool.
If you do those custom figs, keep me in the loop. I love checking those out and want to eventually get a nice helmetless Quorra done myself.

And the final results are in:

Yeah, the General Lee Lightcycle model I saw was up on DeviantArt, I think. But for the Retro TRON Lightcycle colors was something I stumbled on. I didn't see the A-Team or Herbie ones, but they sound kinda interesting.

I'll definitely will try to keep you in the loop. In fact, I started a customized action figure thread to discuss all things customizing action figures (everything from ethics, posting any work and even asking questions about potential figures to do. I even posted a list of figures I would like to do) here at the General Model forums not too long ago. I am still considering on doing them, but I've added a lot of T:L stuff onto my list (I've even included the possibility of doing a T:L version of Yori).

So far, I've got a Han Solo action figure whose head I think would make a good CLU head. I've got a figure that could be used as for Quorra's hair (and I've picked up an Irina Spalko action figure whose hair I think I could make a mold of to use for the other figure's head). I still haven't found the right kind of head to use for Sam Flynn, but I did pick up a Diecast Ducati 1:18 motorcycle that looks a lot like the one Sam rides in the real world, which I am considering on using for Sam in the real world outfit. I've even toyed around with doing T:L versions of TRON 2.0 characters.

But, I'll definitely keep you in the loop (as I've done a lot of discussion and have gotten a lot of help over at the Tron-Sector forums and their post about custom action figures).
