Has anyone considered getting a "replica" N8 phone? I've seen some cost about $100 only. It can play videos or run programs, I think it's pretty good for display purpose (I wouldn't really use it since I don't want to have brain tumor or something, even if it holds 2 SIM cards).

I've considered on getting one of the dummy N8s from eBay, but again, limited funds is limiting my options to do so.

It's crap, but it can play videos or run programs. And it costs only 1/5 to the real N8. Just think of it as a digital frame with N8 look, and never use it to make phonecalls!

maybe you should do a bulk buy for the board? IT would be cheaper.

It appears to use a java based format. I wonder if this model can run apps? If so, then all you'd need is for someone to make the hacking and upload apps.

Bulk pricing is right around $100 if you buy like 3 or more. All sellers are overseas though. Anyone know if there's a US based seller?

*edit* LOL! It has a .3 mega Pixel camera according to one source with a whopping 640 x 240 resolution!

good idea, but it doesn't look like the one used in the movie. There's a few obvious visual differences in the phones, including the placement of the NOKIA branding.

I just randomly paste a result from google search, there are literally dozens of versions, you can pick one that looks right. :rolleyes

I just hope it has a working HDMI port (or whatever port) where Sam attach the module to the phone so we can really insert the module, it'll be even better if it can provide power too!

It would also be neat if someone can figure out how to do the blue LED lights, so you can see that through the chip when it's mounted in the module.

There's also the quest to find a way to do the tiny flashing blue LED in the corner of the chip's frame.


I think it's been mentioned here already, but I'd love to see someone make Gem's umbrella and the special drink (glass, tiny umbrella, and maybe even the little ice cubes) that was given to Zuse.

I was rounding the "and up" part.

I found a couple models on there that had the same body style. Add in another $20 for a replacement N8 body kit with the accurate markings and you'd have a pretty nuts on replica (that actually does something) for under $120.
