All of this Tron talk is making me want to find the original to check out again- at least before the movie comes out.
Good luck with that. The original movie is not available from Disney, Amazon, Best Buy, etc. They are going for $60-$80 on ebay! A Blu-Ray version is in the works, but it's delayed till after the movie comes out. Conspiracy theories abound as to the reasons.
I think it's just Disney being Disney, i.e. being stupid with their idiotic moratoriums on movies! :rolleyes
Anybody with a brain would realize that the time to re-release the original on DVD and Blu-Ray is NOW, so that all the new fans that discover the franchise via the new film can go out and buy the original to see the part of the story they missed! But obviously they wanted it unavailable, probably because some theaters are going to be showing the original
Tron on the big screen this Christmas season.
Luckily, I bought the 20th Anniversary DVD release years ago, so I can watch it anytime I want!
As for finding a copy now if you don't already have it... for the DVD, your best bet is to find a local shop that sells used DVDs, and check their regularly.
For
Your
Entertainment and Suncoast stores sometimes have a good selection of used DVDs, so you might have some luck there. And of course it's always good to know where there's a mom-and-pop shop that sells used DVDs and CDs. Great places for finding out-of-print titles! :cool
As for the Blu-Ray... remember that Blu-Ray LACKS the region coding of DVD. So IF the original is available on Blu-Ray in another region (for example, the UK/Europe or Australia) you can order a copy from there, and it will play on your American Blu-Ray player with absolutely no trouble at all!
