Tron Legacy Costume

Yes, we'll definately keep posting on here future trips to ElecTRONica and getting ready for the premiere.

I like the idea of getting together at Downtown Disney to see the premiere but IMAX sounds even more incredible. Especially at the City Walk, nice crowds there to show off our costumes ;)

I can't make the midnight showing cuz I work on the night of the 16th. I might even be taking Dec. 17th off work just to go see the movie cuz I work graveyard shift that month. This is always the hardest part, finding a time slot that works for everyone with our busy lives.

Ummmm well if you all don't mind going on Dec. 17th at the Universal IMAX let's try and get together then. We can go for drinks and food at the Hard Rock maybe, it's right next to the theater. Then hit the movie.

Now to pick a time slot??? I am gonna look now to see if we can even buy tixs already.

OK just looked, here we go. Universal IMAX 3D. What do you all think of the 7pm time slot? Just in case I can't get work off.

AMC CityWalk Stadium 19 Showtimes and Tickets

I'm going to be buying my ticket right now...so let's get on this before it fills up...7pm universal citywalk 7pm, drinks/dinner costume party with photoshoot before hand.
:)

Hey! Haven't heard from you in awhile. :) how you been?

I might wait till she posts her tutorial. I still don't know what I am going to do about the curved parts of the light for Quorra's costume. So, I want to see what Syuzi did. Otherwise if I use EL Tape. I am afraid it is just going to look sloppy or the tape will break if I try to even make a bend and curve it.

That is why I like eddie's idea with the masking tape on top to diffuse it, plus El Wire is alot cheaper especially since I will be going for accuracy.

Hi there Annisse! Yeah, it's been a while since I posted on here. I've been doing pretty good, I can't complain. I've just been very busy with work. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to put together a costume. I just haven't had the time or the money to put towards it. But I'm planning to have one put together for next Halloween. So we'll see what happens! ;)

I've been so impressed with everyone's ideas and hard work! All of these costumes look fantastic! I hope that whatever I come up with in the next year will be able to come up to the level of quality that everyone here has produced.

I really wish I could come out to California and join yall for ElecTRONica and the movie premiere. That would be SO much fun!! But I can't afford to fly out there, so I'll be TRON'ning it up here in Louisiana when the movie comes out. But those of yall that are able make it to "The Grid" take lots of pictures so us "Outlanders" can live vicariously through you! LOL! :D

As for the curved areas in lighting up your costume Annisse, I don't think you should try to bend or curve the EL tape. It will most likely break. It looks like Syuzi used short strips at angles instead of true curves, but that's just what I gather from her photos, I could be wrong. I'm looking forward to reading her tutorial as well. For true curvature, you may want to look at using the cuttable EL sheets, but the problem with that is matching the color of the glow, the hue may not be the same, nor the intensity. If you have a wide enough strip of EL tape, you may be able to create a curvature by taping off the edges in the shape of a curve using black electrical tape or gaff tape, but with the amount of dancing and moving around you're going to be doing, I'm not too sure how well that would turn out. ;)

Using eddie's idea with the EL wire and masking tape on your costume would look awesome! Especially since you are going for accuracy. As EL wire is so much easier to work with, you could create the curves you're looking for relatively easy, in my opinion.

Annisse, I know how badly you want to light this thing up, so I know that, whatever you come up with and whichever method you decide to use, it's going to look FANTASTIC!! So please keep us apprised of your progress. :)

Those that have been following my costume build thread have already seen this, but I used these clamps:

They have little teeth that bite straight through the lamination for a secure hold. I'm still sourcing where to get more at the moment, but I'm sure these would work just as well:

Light Tape sells extra gripper teeth claps (they are called "C-Nic, connectore), a pair is 4 "nics" (2 nics per wire) and they arent very expensive .20 cents a pair. Or you can buy the whole connector (I bought the low profile one and painted it black) it comes with the nics a 3 foot wire and the low profile cap for attaching. Those are $4.00 a piece.

Just checked IMAX stuff in my local area (West Hollywood to LAX), looks like things are filling up, fast. If you guys want to get a group thing going, you might want to get on that.

Dunno if you guys want it to be just committed RPF members or if any could join in, but I know that if there's a mass glowing suit gathering, I'd love to see it in person, or join in on the glowing clothes festivities. :)

I think anyone who wants to go should come. at least one time, if we can get everyone in costume together, that would be fantastic!!

I bought mine. Friday 17th 7pm IMAX3D Universal Citywalk. I'm in seat H16 :)

I will also most likely see it midnight a little closer to home..and probably a few more times if I really like the movie. (maybe a downtown Disney evening with a big group?) Heck I sat through Avatar 4 times! ;)

Hey I can finally post!

Just started my Tron Costume build! I'll be doing it a bit different though, as Thomas from Daft Punk all TRONified. Now it's just finding a reasonably priced white leather motorcycle suit. So far they are all around $1000 :wacko

I think I'll be going the white EL tape route because there arent too many crazy bends or shapes.

Letting everyone know that I found a source for EL wire that is made especially for sewing onto jackets and into clothes. It might be a bit late for the premiere but for future reference...

Not sure if this type of lighting was already mentioned in this thread? We have gone over so much lighting possiblities enough to make your head spin :p

I like this alot! But don't like the price for the amount I would need.

Now I am wondering if this is what Syuzi was talking about when she said she used EL Film to light up her suit?

At the risk of getting anyone's hopes up...

If....

IF.....

I was to fly in early Friday morning and get a hotel room with the intention of flying out early Saturday morning to get home in time to work an evening shift....

Are there any hotels very close to the theater?

Yeah better get those tics now ppl. All the back center good seats are filling up and you don't want to be stuck up front in front of an IMAX screen! Talk about SUCK!

I am right behind you actordiver a couple rows back K16 and K17 ;)

If you stay up all night and day till Dec. 17th. I guarentee you will finish it for the premiere ;) I finished my Quorra costume in one month working every single day and night on it, working my regular job and no sleep in between all that. Totally worth the PAIN!!!! :D no pain no gain!

Correct. If the theater catches fire, the two of us can direct the entire contingent to the emergency exits....even if the place loses power.

Hey, it comes down to doing something spontaneous. If someone asks me: "What's the most spontaneous thing you did this year?"...

I can say that I built a costume for the Halloween party season based on a movie that wasn't even released yet, with the help of a group of people I've never met in person. Then I became facebook friends with a few of them and decided to fly across the country so we could all party together, in costume, and then see the premiere of the movie our costumes are based off of.

Sorry, but that's freakin cool to say. Can't wait. Should be a great time and a lot of fun to meet everyone.

COO! and crazy! :D and I love crazy! HA!

Yes, love it when similar interests bring ppl together. Part of why I have been a cosplayer for the past 10 years. I have met some of the wonderful, creative, artistic ppl that way and still friends with them, out of costume, to this day ;)
