correlianexports‘s science scanner version is not the same one you have pictured in ‘your find’. What you appear to have is the Roddenberry version. I’m not sure correlianexports electronics is compatible.

I’m sure you PM’d him to make sure?

That scanner Sapper has is indeed one of my kits I did years ago. I actually located the original owned by an employee of a prop house in the LA area and he allowed me to take the photos you have seen around the internet and I took micrometer measurements of it. Back then I shared my measurements with Steve at HMS, that is why the Roddenberry version is so accurate. I'm a bit of a purest and like to build my replicas to function like the originals did, that is why I used the color wheel like the original had with the six different gels.

I’m glad you posted…..I have a burning question…. I did some of my own analysis on the Science Scanner….true or false, the original never had a BLUE gel lens….instead it was a CLEAR lens and when rotated in front of the light it showed in the color WHITE because that’s what the color of the bulb was.

Is the cap with the hole for the light supposed to unscrew? Seems tight on mine & I don't want to mangle it!

To answer a few of your questions Sapper. It's been a lot of years since I took those photo's with the top and bottom off but I seem to remember
both blue and purple gels. I was just playing with the original a few months ago and the motor still works fine.
I never did instructions and the top and bottom caps on my replica are threaded just like the original.

So looky what I found in my stash!!! Looks like it needs a light & batteries & some wiring & I’ll have it finished! Think I need to paint the switch plates too. Anybody remember who made these or have finishing hints?

Any chance of getting some really accurate measurements of this?, I'm drawing up a 3D printable version with removable core so the internal electronics can be updated or changed, I've also ordered some aluminium to machine up a proper version for when I finally get my hands on the Tricorder.

By the way, anyone that has received one, how long did it take to ship after you ordered? I ordered mine 2 and a half weeks ago.

I ordered mine on May 15th and heard from Trek Classic yesterday that they are 3 weeks from shipping. They have been swamped with orders since the Wand Tricorder came out.

No, I wouldn't call it loud at all. The sound effect is very dominant. You can hear the motor for sure, but it's not very loud. I like it because it reminds me of the way we often hear it on the show--you can hear the motor when there's dialog, but the sound effect is layered over it.

Two good examples are Journey to Babel, when McCoy is scanning Sarek when he collapses, and Elaan of Troyius, when Spock scans the dilithium necklace on the bridge. The Trek Classic replica is nowhere near as loud as the real prop.

Your thinking of the 1st run of DStines Scanners. Thise were a little loud. But the new reworked ones from Trek Classic are quite. Note, if you want it louder just remove the bottom cap. It is significantly louder.

Mine took a couple of weeks as well. It was at least a week before I even got a tracking number, but after that it was only two or three days till they shipped. Then Priority Mail took four days instead of three.

Same answer as asalaw. You can hear the motor but the sound effect is louder. I think it's a nice balance. I actually prefer to hear real mechanical sounds along with the sound effect. And like he said, you can hear it in the show. To me that's a screen accurate feature.

I agree completely. I like my old dstines scanner that I can hear the motor. And the new one where I don't hear it as much.
