I have always been fascinated by that bobbing, weaving metal thingie behind Spock in The Cloud Minders.
I never even knew what it was, but last Christmas I received the book Designing the New Frontier by Dan Chavkin and Brian Mcguire. In it, they discuss the sculpture and it turns out be a "kinetic fountain spray" designed by Harry Bertoia. I had to have one. An original Bertoia Spray will set you back big money, but there were knock-offs made throughout the 60's and 70's. In fact, the one featured in The Cloud Minders was a knock-off, made by someone in Tarzana, California. The one I recently purchased was a Japanese made Dave Grossman version. I guess Dave Grossman was an interior design mail order vendor from St. Louis, Missouri. They sent out their Bertoia Sprays in card board tubes. Anyways here is the one I got off feebay. It will look great next to my TOS medical bay cloth pillows!
