Torso version 1.33

PM me, we can chat about it. I moved to LA in 2004, so I was there. Making a large oven is not as hard or expensive as one might think. For suits, I open pour and brush it, rather than inject. I have had better results that way. If you build a suit right, it will last for many Halloweens. I spend a few months per year in Cali, but am overseas the bulk of the year working with the studio here. PAX is nice, and for my foam latex make-ups, I do my under painting with it, but after that I use Skin Illustrator. Getting really good results with PAX takes a lot of care and finesse.

Thank you everyone for your comments. I got the first paintup done, its been about 10 hours or strait painting and im beat. I will be adding the quills and trying to get some netting next. It was alot of fun finaly getting some paint on one of these, now i just have to match a mask and i can get some realy cool pictures lol. thanks for looking.

This is nice. What are you painting with?

It is also interesting to me, that everyone's suits stop at the forearms. Why is that?

Because most forearms are covered by the armor/gauntlets etc. any more latex and paintrub, limited mobility, etc happens

I saw that, but I also noticed gaps, between the end of the suit and the armor and such. If it were a foam suit, I would be inclined to run it farther up and make the armor separate, fiberglass or vacuform maybe. I realize that gets kinda pricey though. With all of that slip latex on these guys must be dripping sweat at the end of these suits by the gallon. :)

Mike ..most guys here dont have full body ovens ..they are creating ready to wear costumes ..or even generic sized body suits to sell. In most cases what you are seeing is something where one size doesnt fit all. The fact is, many people on these boards are spending alot of money on body suits ..without knowledge of repair and upkeep, foam latex suits and the potential for rapid deterioration and /or damage just isnt worth the investment. As for the armor ..most pieces are separate, most commonly run in resin or fiberglass ..from time to time they are latex and polyfoam

Gotcha. The oven in definitely a set back. I know so many that just do not have the space for it.

Its cool. I am impressed with a lot of what I see here. Some of these guys have put in so much time and effort. That is admirable and so are the pieces they are producing.

Effects guy, its PAX and i ended the arms for 3 reasons- 1. Its a smaller lighter mould 2. its makes it more universal 3. I ran out of clay lol. As for the armour being seperate, i make fantasy armour and SCA armour also. In my experience of wearing armour around, it is a constant battle to keep in place. Pads of armour want to slide around and move and spin, so you are constantly fixing things. With it all sculpted as one, its easyer to deal with, easyer to put on and take off. Plus its the same way they did it in the first film, so thats the way i want to go. And as i said i love foam latex, i would love to use it. But it does deteriorate fast, i have many old foam props i made and they are crunchy and chipping apart now. I know latex still deteriorates too, but at least its alot slower and will server its purpose for many years. Plus the oven problem... lol

Termokk, I gotta say, knowing it was PAX, you get a lot of credit from me. Its not easy airbrushing PAX. What airbrush are you using? What did you use as a sealer? I hear where you guys are coming from on the foam. It definitely is not suited for many years of use. Do you use an undersuit of any kind or avoid major bunching of the latex? It is impressive stuff. Also, kinda curious how heavy that mold was, because it looks heavy.

Looks dope as usual corey. You made me change up my color combo on my torso. Now get back to work on the rest of the suit.

Lol thanks bud. I use a paschee H external mix airbrush, and sealed with perma-wet. The latex is thick enough to hold its own shape but it is backed with polyfoam. The mold is about 150lbs per side, heavy but not impossible to move.

Damn, that is a beast of a mold. I hope you had some help and wore a back brace.

H's are a great tool. I know some people who look down on them, but for PAX, Rubber Cement, Baldies, and Silicone, they are really the best way to go to avoid clogs and skips.

can we see a pic with a painted head on it? Probably looks so badass.what color silver is the armor.

Very very nice work. Have you ever used Skin-Flex? I've been experimenting with it. It is very stretchy and tough. When I finish the gauntlet project I'm planning on doing the legs with it. We will see. Again, very nice work.
