That looks awesome. Are you going to offer casts of the planet and the back plate?
Omg that looks amazing.... How did you do that??If you give a size I may be able to knock this out in a bit. talking about the Pin case.
update, whipped one up at lunch time, you know I have issues sometimes with tight bezels.
I know where the pins go there is a flat cutout shape and the pins are laid back a bit.
I ended up a 1.25 over all depth.
I used 1.125 for the pin diameter.
The original concept designers concept was changed vs that prop, the loop hole is way different unless it trapezoids out where its cutout to. I would have to see open and closed images of the actual case prop.

This model is all solid right now, not too much time to make.
I do a lot of subtractive modeling in Rhino, I leave the more complex organic stuff to the sculptors in Freeform.
I think the case holes are actually slightly smaller than the width of the pins, if you take a close look at the prop photo, you can see that the outer most diameter is higher up then the diameter of the hole the pin is in. It has to do with the angle it is laying back at.
I'll keep my pin at 1.125 and rework stuff, I have regular to work to get to then back to this for some break time.
Sorry but I really do not teach 3D modeling so much, Im more of artist that happens to use it as a tool to push projects along. If you can just do some regular sketching and some Adobe Illustrator work, you maybe be able to 3D sculpt or model.
If you have issues figuring out proportions in drawings in general, you need to get that down first before even moving on to 3D. Or if your a good sculptor or draftsperson, that helps a lot.
I took a look at the movie in bit today, I guess the planet emblem on the jetpack has the bubble over it in some shots? At least in the invention hall shot it seemed to have the bubble.
Do you guys know if there are close up of the case in an any shots in the movie?
Did anyone get a side or straight on front view of the prop at Disney?
Guys another thing, I would recommend getting that faux carb part, laser cut. It quite easy to get some and you can use real bolts, then you can polish and weather it correctly.
Just a thought.
I'd look for the correct size tanks. They will actually need to be sliced so you can squeeze them into the vacuum part as they are a little wider. It is getting up there in cost to go with as much found parts as possible so it depends on your goal.
Been crazy this week so I haven't been able to make any progress on my build but hopefully this weekend will get the tanks all assembled!
I made it out of piece of plastic, cut off the end of a Plastic wedge thing. What is the piece that the wires are going into? Off the shelf or did you make it?
I guess everyone is on vacation, been pretty dead here. I got a little more progress before I head out for some vacation time as well.
Not happy with the top canister so I'm going to redo it. It's killing me that we can't figure out what the real world item is. As someone who has restored many classic cars it looks so familiar but just can't seem to place it./QUOTE]
Hi,
I think those parts may be motorcycle part, at first I thought they might be magneto parts, look up Lucas magnetos. The reason being is that the center part between the cans was reference a harley part and I also think some of the finned parts back there are motorcycle cylinder sleeves. I leads me to believe that some of those tubes are part of exhaust ports and older mag parts.
Also Franks ride a motorcycle in the film.
