Tomb Raider Reborn

I love the storyline! Is that the bermuda triangel she washes up on???? I think she has a sawed off!!! Nice!

I believe it WAS going to be the bermuda triangle but they've now settled for some island on the coast of japan! 8D I don't care where it's set, so long as everything scares the crap out of me, I can't wait! xD

Salutations Athora! I've actually had your Cosplay Island/Deviantart pages bookmarked on my computer for a while now. (So far, I think you have the definitive Tomb Raider 9 costume. :) )

I've been keeping an eye out on the Ebay UK site (though they're a bit too expensive for me, since I have to convert it to US prices + shipping). Which reminds me, I need to find a Timberland store around and see if they have boots to try on. I'm not sure I'd be a US size 7.5 or 8 in their boots. Which pants were they on Amazon UK?

Actually, the koru makes sense in what it symbolizes - For the Maori, it's a symbol for new life, rebirth, and beginnings based on the koru fern (a common plant in New Zealand). Wikipedia also puts it, "The circular shape of the koru helps to convey the idea of perpetual movement while the inner coil suggests a return to the point of origin." Sounds like something that might work for Lara!

Interesting way to make the holster. I've never worked with craft foam before, but I'll check it out. Thanks!

PS - Your new pictures on Deviantart look amazing! I hope I can do my costume half as well as yours.

Helloo!! :D
Really?!? aww *hugs* thank you so much!

Well those Charles boots are I think £130 RRP so £60 on ebay is a bargain if you ask me! they're SO tough and durable and ofcourse they look the business! i've had them for months now and been wearing them practically everyday. They havent got a single bit of wear on them! :') they didn't rub either which was great.
as my mother always says, buy nice or buy twice :)

I've looked on the UK Amazon site and they don't sell the trousers anymore :/ it's really hard to get hold of a decent pair isn't it :S was quite lucky with mine, they were only £20 and they're water proof. I always try to buy clothes for my cosplay that I could wear in real life, that way it isn't such a waste of money :p

Yeah the meaning of it makes huge sense, but she doesn't have it when she's on the endurance, so some how she acquires it after she becomes shipwrecked, but before she is captured by the natives. So I'm thinking it must be something she's picked up? but why would she just randomly pick up a Maori, unless it was an artefact that she thought was valuable or whatever. unless someone who she is shipwrecked with is a Kiwi and gives it to her? but it just doesn't make a lot of sense, so that's why I suggested a Pheonix :p as it symbolizes rebirth and she could well have found it, saw it's value and kept it on her :p
Gahhhh so many answers need explaining, release date too far away! xD

Craft foam is so easy and effective to use, I think the simplest materials work best. you can even sew it :D I used it to make my backpack for underworld, and you can see how well it helps to keep it's shape. and ofcourse you can bend it and all sorts :p

Have you had any thoughts on your ice axe?

GOING SOLO - It's more a survivalist story, one that shows Lara before she became the Lara Croft we know. (Then again, this is a reboot of the entire franchise.) So she's younger, more vulnerable, and inexperienced.

Athora - You're welcome! :) Oh the boots are definitely a bargain any way you slice it. (Of course, as luck would have it there's no Timberland stores around or stores that carry women's TImberland boots to see if I'm a size 7.5 or 8)

Drat! Good outdoor combat pants are hard to find indeed. It took me months just to find the ones I currently have (on page 1 here) and they're made of a cheap quality fabric to boot. What brand our your pants? (Perhaps I can turn something up here on the US side of things.)

I completely agree! I'm an oddball who likes to incorporate my costumes into everyday wear. The double takes people do is so worth it. :lol

Mm, good point about the Maori vs. Phoenix pendant. We'll just have see when the game comes out! (PS - Beautiful job on your phoenix sculpt by the way. I love the different layered colours of green you were able to get.)

I'm personally not going to do an ice pick (at least, not yet). I've also never built any props of any kind, so I am quite ignorant when it comes to building materials and construction. Would anyone else here have suggestions?

Lando - Sadly, it's not going as well as I would like. I've been set back a few paces. But fear not, I am trudging onwards!

The game takes place in the Dragons or Devils Triangle off the coast of Japan.
It's the pacific version of the Bermuda Triangle.
The exact coordinates are given in the trailer scribbled on a paper on Lara's desk.

Interesting write up dissecting the trailer.

You are full of great and useful information Division 6! My hats off to you. :)

The article has some very interesting thoughts on Lara's greeb pendant not being either a phoenix or a koru, but a Japanese jade magatama or a Greek symbol.

I'm very glad to find out about her journal too. I have a journal that looks like that (bought it at Barnes & Noble earlier this year). Got that accessory down!

I have the B&N journal as well but discovered the other day that it's to small, it needs to be 9"x12".
I've found on place that sells one that looks really close but it's $60 in Italy.
Middle of the page.
According to another forum, if you look really close you can see there is an embossed "C" on the upper left corner.

Other forums have IDed her phone (Iphone4) phone case (Speck ($50) and head phones (Beats by Dr. Dre ($150).
I've also IDed her coffee cup ($15), don't know the brand but it's listed all over the net using steel travel or commuter mug.

Notice the size of the journal compared to her hand.

This cup is really close.
Side by side the handle is a little off and Lara's looks to gave a gunmetal grey paint on it.

I've found lot's of places on line that print images on this particular style mug.
I am currently working on the artwork for it but am having trouble finding the correct statue image.

There's a pacific version of the bermuda triangle? really? didn't know that.. lol! will have to look into that...

Well if it helps, I'm usually a size UK 7 and my feet are exactly 25.8 CM ( xD ) and size 7 fits me perfectly with enough room to fit a nice pair of wooly socks in. ^^ i dunno if that helps lol!! might do? xD

My trousers are also Timberlands, have you looked at online outdoor clothing stores that ship to your country? there must be something! also chosing the right size for those are a pain, especially if you have wide hips and long legs like me - i just about got away with a UK 10.. makes my arse look great though! ;D that's the key to a good Lara cosplay, great ass! xD
I tend to look for something that's the right style, that way if it's too light in colour, you can always dye them. :D

Thankyou ^^ I had a lot of fun making that. Interesting that article suggests it's either a japanese jade magatama or a greek symbol. We'll just have to find out once we get the game, it'll alllll make sense! GAH! hurry up Monday! Dx

I haven't either, but my friend who is an A.W.E.S.O.M.E. prop maker is gonna help me build one (possibley from wood) so I'll pass on tips that might help you, though there are much more experienced people on this forum xD i feel like such a newb! I would love to buy a real dmm rebel ice axe but I think spending £100 odd on something I'll use just for a cosplay is daft :/ plus it's a potentially lethal weapon xD
I needed something soft for an ice axe to ride with (incase i accidentally killed my pony Dx) so i made one using polystyrene and papier mache, it looked okay at the time, it served it's purpose and wasn't really affected when it got soaked and covered in mud. :)

Division 6 - Wow, that one really does look like the Barnes and Noble one, though much more distressed. Actually, mine is a 9x12. :) I managed to snag one of the last ones (though it's unlined as I was going to use it for a sketchbook)

Athora - I'm with you, I thought there was only the Bermuda Triangle.... :confused

So I'd either be a UK 5.5 or 6 (I vary between those two sizes depending on how the boot is cut, so I guess I'd go for a 5.5 then. Ebay had the Timberland Boot in Tan, but not Taupe. I'm wondering if I might be able to distress it enough to make it look more like the Taupe.)

Oh finding pants is definitely a pain! Every outdoor store I got to has only plain-jane athletic-material pants (and usually only the top 2 small front pockets). I've been looking for Timberland clothing, but so far no luck. But I shall keep looking! (Haha! I'm afraid I have the average legs, average hips with one Avatar Na'vi like torso problem. :p) I think I'd be a UK size 8 in pants, whatever us equivalent to a US size 2-3.

Best of luck with the ice axe! If it comes out anything like the rest of your cosplay, it'll be dead-on! :)

It's am image of Artemis, but like you, I cannot easily find an exact reference drawing.

Hey, this is looking really good so far. Watch? Probably one of those Navy Seals watches that they advertise in Men's Journal or some such. She did wear one of those Timex clip-ons in TR2 or 3(game)-they did an advertising campaign for it. Practice your backflips!

Oh, and as far as moving the straps is concerned, they can be moved, but you will need to know how to sew, but with a bit of finicky work, you can make it happen!

Guess I'll have yo take a look again to see if I can find one.:)

I have the blue one and had an opportunity to acquire a yellow/black one when they first came out.

Thats the one thing I'm thinking about, because it doesn't look like anyone else is, and its up my alley.

If I can make a CAD drawing of the ice pick, I can CNC it out of something. Aluminum would be obvious but expensive... and I'm a poor grad student :angel. So most likey wood or MDF, with some creative painting to make it look more metallic. Hmm, or I can do plastic, but getting thick plastic that machines well AND takes paint can be a pain.

I have the pictures Division 6 posted, its just a matter of finding time to make the model.

Of course the clothes are all UK models... for once they have an advantage over us US folks. Plus I have monster feet... I might fit a US Women's 11 if they're not narrow... and pants are always an issue no matter what. There is a Timberland factory store nearby though... maybe I can scope it out...

This looks promising!

Timberland Womens Organic Cotton Cargo Trousers Pants | eBay

Wow, I'm right smack in the middle of the sizing chart for a UK size 6 and 8. Go figure! (I think I might go on the safe side and get an 8. If the waist is too big, I can always use the brown leather belt Lara wears).

Lawl, well if they're all called the Bermuda Triangle then its gonna make it difficault! xD

Maybe or you could get the dark brown ones, but I thought the brown looked TOO dark? :confused there should be some Taupe on there.. ohh perfection! xD Get the bigger size, that way if they're too big you could always wear extra socks. you don't wanna risk them being too small. :S I'm a perfect 7, so you could be ok.

thankyou ^^ I'll post my progress in here. won't be till nearer the release date I'll cosplay reborn Lara again.

I saw those combats!!! they were too small for me, otherwise they'd be perfect xD GET ZEM!!! Yeh think you'd be an 8. ^^ you're lovely and slim, very reborn Lara-like figure you have there. unfortunately, no living breathing woman will have classic lara's XXX cup boobies and skinny waist! xD I saw Rhona mitra's outfit at the square enix offices on monday, and omggg, I think Rhona is the closest anyone's gonna get to Lara xD
speaking of monday, I asked Meagan what Lara's pendant was and obviously she couldn't tell us anything, other than that it's got GREAT significance to the story and that it ISN'T a Maori. ;)
