Tomb Raider Reborn

Greetings again! I promise I haven't fallen off the face of the earth. I've just gotten stumped at the boot dilemma. Thankfully the 'combat' boot seems to be in fashion this season so I'm hoping I might be able to finally nab something. Now onto updates!

Tank Top - I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement so I think I'll just deal with my wonky straps

Undershirt - I'm going to try to find a white athletic tank top with a bra built in (aha, two birds with one stone!)

Belt - I don't think should be too hard to find. Now the holster...think it might be better to make it?

Necklace - That dern necklace, along with the boots, is being the bane of my existence right now! I got one koru necklace from a friend, but the pendant is massive. I've looked other places, but the pendants are either the wrong size or the wrong shape. I think I'm just going to have to knuckle under and make it.

Pick Ice - Nice find Division 6! Good eyes! Now....how the heck am I going to make that? :confused

Eveningarwen - Sadly, I was not at Comic Con this year. I live on the other coast so my pocketbook can't afford it. :/

To make the pick I would probably go with layered sheet plastic and 2 part epoxy putty like Magic Sculpt or Aves.

For conventions you would want something that security wouldn't take away and will not injure others (although I've nearly had my eyes taken out from idiots with cardboard swords not paying attention to their surroundings)

Maybe look into foam blades (check out the work done by those making armor out of flooring foam)

I am kind of looking at making this costume, and as of now my plan is to CAD up the ice pick (the best I can) and CNC the pieces out of appropiate-thickness plywood.

The hard part of course, being I need measurements!

Update time! (I swear this costume is deceptively simple (or would it be deceptively hard?) I started it on a year ago and I feel like I haven't gotten any closer to finishing the dern thing then when I started!)

I'm coming to the conclusion that both my pants and shirt are the wrong colour and material. Should I buy a white or grey cami to dye? No idea on the pants (it was hard enough finding the ones I did. I also think they're a bit too bulky).

I DID manage to find a proper koru pendant off ebay

You can also find one here...

However, mine came on a long black string, so I'll need to buy some brown twine and figure out the exact length to make it look like Lara's.

Then there's the boots. Those bloody boots! I did make a breakthrough in finding out that the exact boots used in the game are Timberland Charles Street boots (and a lot darker than I was expecting. Can anyone tell exactly what colour her boots are? They seem to change colour in every shot due to the lighting). I haven't been able to find any in my size yet. The closest boot I've been able to find is another Timberland. What do you guys think?

Remember that leather like cloth get's darker when wet.
The last few games have added that element into game play.

just shows how a deceptively simple looking costume can turn evil to reproduce. Bets of luck with it, and as a new arrival, it's great to see a forum with so much positivity and helpful feedback. Liking this place.

I did a couple caps for you.
Pants look green and boots medium brown.

AOh drat! Those boots are done and gone. Ah well.

Syrinx - You got that right! It's also a matter of being a perfectionist. I could just go with what I have and try to pass it off. But I like being able to try to get as close to the character as possible.

Division 6 - Those are great screencaps! Thank you much! Yep, her pants are definitely tighter than mine (despite fitting in the waist, my pants are a wee bit baggy in the bum/thighs). But green should be easier to find than brown. Come to look at it again, I'm beginning to think her tank top is actually grey instead of blue like my tank top.

Interesting tidbit: She's wearing the choker in the caps, but there's no pendant. How....odd.

Does anyone know where I could get her drop-leg holster or someone who could make one on a budget (i.e. I don't have $200 to drop on the holster, sadly)?

Hey, I tried posting in here some links for you before, but my comment didn't get accepted. damn!

You can get those timberland boots on ebay if you go to ebay. co uk - I bought some for Lara in the colour Taupe, as they look dark in photo's anyway. they do ship worldwide.
Timberland also do a really nice pair of tight fitting combat pants, which are on amazon UK.

Have you tried sculpting her pendant out of FIMO? I thought her design was a phoenix, a maori crossed my mind but never really made sense to me as to why she had it. (assuming that she didnt have the pendant at the beginning, on the endurance.)

as for drop leg holster, I made mine using craft foam and some gorgeous distressed leather effect material bought from on ebay. i spent no more than about £15 to make it, thats including the d-rings and rivets too!

Can't wait to see some more of your progress. ^^

I'm going to a private demo of the new Tomb Raider game on monday, I should ask them EVERYTHING about her outfit! xD

Salutations Athora! I've actually had your Cosplay Island/Deviantart pages bookmarked on my computer for a while now. (So far, I think you have the definitive Tomb Raider 9 costume. :) )

I've been keeping an eye out on the Ebay UK site (though they're a bit too expensive for me, since I have to convert it to US prices + shipping). Which reminds me, I need to find a Timberland store around and see if they have boots to try on. I'm not sure I'd be a US size 7.5 or 8 in their boots. Which pants were they on Amazon UK?

Actually, the koru makes sense in what it symbolizes - For the Maori, it's a symbol for new life, rebirth, and beginnings based on the koru fern (a common plant in New Zealand). Wikipedia also puts it, "The circular shape of the koru helps to convey the idea of perpetual movement while the inner coil suggests a return to the point of origin." Sounds like something that might work for Lara!

Interesting way to make the holster. I've never worked with craft foam before, but I'll check it out. Thanks!

PS - Your new pictures on Deviantart look amazing! I hope I can do my costume half as well as yours.
