Tom Baker Sonic Screwdriver SHOCKING EVIDENCE!

Welcome aboard CT, at least our discussions on here won't be onesided anymore. You've certainly made a splash on your first day here.

So are we back to square one here then? Was it a one off piece just made for production?

And CT, why are you not making this version?

Thank you Jonathan, this is something I am certainly considering as there is no accurate replica out there however there are various reasons that I will not go into as to why I am reluctant to do so. Check back in about 6-9 months and we'll see :cool

I'm sorry, that violates the WE WANT IT NOW Clause in the RPF's rules. You'll have to get to work on it immediately and make it affordable to everyone. :lol

Ah yes, the curse of the instant-gratification Internet generation. Patience grasshopper....:lol

first of all - i don't need 50k - I get along just fine and i already have houses of my own

2nd - the photos we have are not mine to send - they come from friends and I would never do anything to prove something to someone that is simply trying to ease out info.

3rd - If you want to show emails as proof of something - why didn't you say so. I can fabricate as well as the next guy.

Go shake someone else's tree dude. This whole sonic quest was really me helping a friend and in the end providing information here. I never said we have the prop - we have clear pictures of Bakers prop taken at the BBC while he was on the show - that is what we are using. I gain noting from lying about this - nothing. I don't even collect Doctor Who.

By the way - your Avatar is racist

Hey Jet Beetle, I tell you what: I'll even chuck in a lightly used Omega Planet Ocean or a vintage Panerai and my first born if you show me that pic.

And if you're really snappy about it, I'll give you a sackload of French porn too.

I think that covers all the bases....:lol

I'd sell my own mother for a sack load of French porn.
I've just done a search on the dental mallet mentioned in a previous post... not quite what I was expecting. it's a mallet :$

Fed up with searching now, been doing this for about four years. I sit and wait patiently for breaking news.

Oooh... okay, C.T., now you've gone and gotten me excited. You're a very talented prop maker, so I can't wait to see your interpretation of the original series Sonic... you know, if you decide to have a go at it, that is. :cool:thumbsup

BWA HA HAHAHAHAHA!!! :lol

You guys are killing me here! Funniest conversation I've read in weeks!!! :lol

Thanks for the laughs, gentlemen. :cool

Jet Beetle, If you don't mind me asking, what does having 100 posts have to do with anything. Just because someone is new, does not mean he does not know what he is talking about.

This thread has been going for a long time and whenever someone calls you on it, you keep coming up new reasons why you can't show your proof. Instead of calling someone elses proof BS, maybe you should worry about your own proof.

I have to agree here. We've been waiting for the shocking evidence since March but haven't seen a shred of documentation or pictures of the shocking evidence at all. I'd say CT has provided more information that you Jet. No offence but even Ectropy provided a link to a guy named Purple on the Tardis Builders Forum that tracked down people that made the hand props for the show in this link here: http://www.tardisbuildersforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=discussion&action=display&thread=352

that's still more evidence that it isn't an activator than the evidence that says it is. Since we already know the sonic is the same prop from Thunderbirds are Go! the thread has this to say....which is basically what C.T. had said:

"The idea that the Activator was possibly what was used as the screwdriver prop back in 1966 for the Thunderbirds are Go! movie has surfaced again in the last few years on a variety of boards, it's been talked about on the old Outpost Gallifrey board and now its replacement board. For a long time, I was willing to go along with the idea as it does seem plausible, but the more you look into it, the more it doesn't quite stack up, at least to me, anyway. Here's why:

Chiropractic methods have been around for ages, the Montana Crow Indian medicine men used a stick-like device to manipulate the spine to aid digestive ailments as early as 1901, after that, Thomas H Storey developed the technique further by employing a stick with a rubber end and a mallet to reset the spine and this was continued in practice until the 1960s. Arlan Fuhr came along and updated the whole procedure. He used a heavily modified impact hammer after testing a variety of other similar devices - all were too brutal, but the hammer seemed just right. It remained in this prototype form for many years while he tested it out, then in 1976 it was released commercially as the Activator Adjusting Instrument I, updated again in 1994 as the Activator Adjusting Instrument II. The second one does look very much like the Sonic we all know and love, more-so than version I, but there I fear the similarities end.

For a start, the years do not match, there's no way that the 1967 prototype could have found its way onto the Thunderbirds set in 1966, unless of course they used a time machine. Also, this was the only activator in development, no-one else but Furh had the rights to do so, it was his baby and the practice is still registered to him. Also, the activator is much smaller than the Sonic in many key areas, it has a different method of sprung movement, moving back less than a quarter of an inch - the action is near identical to that of a stapler gun with a click and reload action, the sonic spring action is much smoother, easier to do and has a far greater throw... you also could not activate the Activator the way you would the Sonic with one hand, it's impossible - I've tried it."

So my question is, when ARE you going to post something of a definitive picture that would or could coincide with the dates? Are you instead of looking for an activator trying to hunt down an impact hammer that the activator is based off of?

Surely a pic of the items already found won't make a difference to the market as we still won't know what exactly it is or where to get them. We already know what it looks like so it can't hurt can it?

I personally won't buy one as the prices for the current models are huge, but as someone else pointed out, if Russ can get his hands on one to replicate, then we are all happy.

At least this thread is being kept alive, I've been waiting ages for some decent news.

I'd say it's a 60's era Push Drill. Has the real world item really never been found?

That theory was explored but given the wide variety I don't think that it would be found if thats what it is.

To me, I think it's possible the sonic could have been cobbled together from multiple items. If you go to that Tardis Builders Forum thread you can see a shot of the Thunderbirds prop and the grip looks like it was filed by hand to remove something. much more rough finish then the rest of the prop. It is possible tha tthat was the effect they were going for but it doesn't look like it to me.

It may be that they just didn't have a lathe with an expansion bit to clean it up. Later shots of the Sonic Screwdriver incarnations of the prop it looks more refined. If this was not a single item used for the Sonic, it may be cobbled together from many parts and one may be heavily modded.

Actually, in that picture you're referring to, the hand grip seems to be wrapped in some sort of grip material, maybe some sort of tape. By the time of its appearance on Doctor Who, that material had been removed, revealing the bare metal underneath. Or at least that's what it looks like to me.

It's kinda hard to tell, but to me the texture looks too shiny, like filed metal. I don't recall ever hearing of a grip material back in 66 with the look of metal except for gaffers tape and that has a cloth weave in it like duct tape that you would see. unless it's some sort of metal tube cover? like the weaved metal radiator hose type stuff or possibly a very thin metal mesh with an adhesive back? Those sorts of things I believe existed back then AND that would have the shiny look of filed metal too!

I love our mods.

look, I never started this thread to push anyone's buttons - in fact this whole search started in a way to help a friend of mine who loves the show and has been looking for years to find the item in question. I knew a few people from work who provided me with photos and a couple of behind the scene videos (shot for their own personal enjoyment while on set) and i cannot go and put that stuff up here. this is not something I do everyday and it's not even that important to me - I enjoy the hunt but I'm too busy to put more than 5% of my time in it. Anyone who knows me off board knows everything that is on my desk now and how many deadlines I have. i came here because this is a community where I like and respect almost - almost - everyone and I knew if there was additional info it would come to me. I didn't expect it to be set on fire for it. I don't like to be called names - no one does, especially by someone who seems to have just shown up to do just that.

Seeing how this has gone down - and how I don't want to be part of 3rd grade recess again - i'm going to keep our findings to ourselves. The few of you who have PMed me about getting in on what we have discovered and the item you need to find (photos of the item will be provided) you are still in the circle.

Good luck to the rest on your quest.

Sorry to hear that, but seeing as the friend you were helping is manofsteel25, and seeing how much of a fan of Doctor Who he is, and knowing how he helped Russ (AKA RB Replicas) with the most recent run of sonic screwdrivers he produced, we can only hope that the RPF as a whole eventually benefits from this information in some way, shape, or form. :unsure

You do realize, of course, that you're now giving C.T. the ability to say he was right all along about you.

Sing it!

My name is Mok
Thanks a lot
I know you love the thing I've got

Sorry, I love Rock n Rule.

But nobody is asking you to share anything secret like behind the scenes photos or anything else, nobody is asking to see pictures of the show prop, we all know what that looks like, they want to see photos of the real world found item and being as you've already told us what it is i don't see any harm in showing that as it's hardly a secret if you've already said what it is.
Unless it's got a dirty great label on the side with a company logo and model number it's hardly going to aid anyone in searching for it by showing a photo, if you truly didn't want to share what the item was you wouldn't of said it's a chiro activator surely that's the biggest clue of all to tell people what to look for ?
Showing a found item identical to the sonic body isn't going to aid anyone unless you tell them what it is, and you already have done that.

You do realize, of course, that you're now giving C.T. the ability to say he was right all along about you.

No. I'm avoiding wasting time with people who offer nothing - So i get to say "Ha Ha - told you" when all is said and done - so what? like i said, anyone who wants to follow what we are up to is welcome - know well that tracking down the model we are looking for has not been easy as well as my work schedule and Bob's - we do this when we can and or when we want. i know for a fact we have narrowed it down to what we and others who were there believe it to be.

I do have tho thank CT for making me laugh out loud. Dedication coupled with defiance is an admiral trait - even for those who apply it in such trivial matters.

thanks again to the mods -

Do you love our mods because you reported CTs avatar as racist and he got banned for it? Just curious as none of his posts seemed to be against the TOS or users agreement but his avatar was taken down and well, you did mention it.

Never mind that though. Thing is we're not looking for the pictures of the SS prop or behind the scene vids of the prop, we're looking for the shocking evidence about the activator you said you have a picture of. I hate to say it but it looks more and more like CT is right and you're using this as an excuse to not have to back up your info. *shrugs* it just seems to me like saying:

you: I got a treat for you :love

us: can we see it? :eek

you: not yet

us: then how do we know you even have it?

you: i have proof. :love

us: what proof? you've proved nothing. :unsure

you: not showing you ever then. :angry that's the price you pay for questioning me. only the "cool" kids can see it now. :cool

I mean, what WAS the point of this thread then? :confused

I reported NOTHING. I didn't have to. The mods simply stop what shouldn't be going down. I like a little fire - I don't blame CT for doubting, it's just the name calling that could have been done without. i mean C'mon, STFU being used on a family hobby site. There's no need to be rude to people - especially when you just joined and know nothing about the person you are addressing. Show some class and respect.

As for sharing what we have - the minute I post what we know everyone interested will rush off to ebay and drive down the supply and up the prices. i will post - but I just want to make sure we get a few first - and some for those who are friendly.

If what you say is true, I can't say that I blame you.
I seem to recall many moons ago a gent right here on the RPF discovered what the "grip" section was on the OWANH saber was and shared it here on this forum...before he had a chance to buy one. Within 24 hours the price of the grenades went from 20.00 to 400.00. And you would think someone here would have just BOUGHT him one for sharing this info??? No chance.
Jet, the only thing I might have done was bought up your stock first, then shared the info.
Folks just need to learn a little patience. :unsure
