Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Lets see some pages already :love

A teaser of some of the pics I'm using:

Won't be posting many more full pages unless there's something different. Most pages will follow the format in my first sample. ;)

Hmmmm. There has to be something I can come up with.

I know you have enough ideas, but what about Chinese mythology? I have a bunch of
different reference pictures, and designs.

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

How about this for the four horsemen? I'll include the link because adding the picture turned out to be quite huge.

This is a woodcut done by Albrecht Durer (1471 - 1528) and more images of his works can be found on Albrecht Durer - The complete works

I would also encourage you to check out the works of Gustave Dore. You can see some of the work he did for Dante's Inferno at the following link The World of Dante

I have nowhere near enough ideas! If you can give me details about some spirits please do! I need to fill up the international beings. :)

Nice! I had that pic but not at that resolution. I'll check out the rest of those links. :)

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

If this has already been mentioned I apologize. The Ghostbusters roleplaying game made by West End Games made many supplements, reference guides and adventure type game books. They made a Tobin's Spirit Guide and it was packed with info and made to look like the authentic guide. That may be a great book to glean information and illustrations from and also to help build more info on top of what is in the supplement with your own research.

Yep. :) Unfortunately a lot of that stuff seems to be aimed at kids but it's part of my research for sure.

Here is an illustration of Cthulhu I did years ago. I can scan it if you are interested.

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Here's something you might find useful for appropriately old (pub. 1862) public domain images.

Dictionnaire Infernal:
Dictionnaire infernal : répertoire universel des êtres, des personnages, des livres... qui tiennent aux esprits, aux demons... (6e éd.) / par J. Collin de Plancy

Quite literally a categorical dictionary of devils/demons/etc. Originally published in 1818 and has been reprinted several times the most famous of being the 1863 version which added 69 additional images bringing the total up to over 500 images.

The French National Library (Bibliotheque nationale de France) has digitized the 1863 version of the book and hosts it online as a free download for non-commercial use (the above link). You can download the pages as jpegs individually or the entire 737 pages as an 98 meg pdf file. If you can read French you will be able to read the actual dictionary/encyclopedia entries for it's entries.

It's not the cleanest or highest resolution scans I have ever seen but it's definitely worth a look even if you have to run stuff through a noise filter before they would be ready for use. The imagery looks appropriately old and should fit the theme pretty darn well since it's basically the type of book the TSG was based on. Personally I downloaded the pdf to be able to browse pages quickly and then downloaded the individual pages as jpegs if it piqued my interest.

If you want a quick pick of some of the entries here's a link to the wiki:

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Some Lovecraft would be great thrown in there. I guess you could say he based his books on his experiences with the real entities.

That's what I'm doing with a lot of these mythical creatures. Basically entering them as if they were real. :)

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

Finally finished with all the reference material that was gathered for me but there's still a lot to do. Anyone feel like doing some research? I'm particularly in need of ghosts, ghouls, & spirits from Africa, Asia, Australia, and South America. Some more Middle Eastern ones wouldn't be bad either.

This WILL eventually be a reality. Always looking for more invented creatures as well or artwork in the style of old book engravings! PM me or post here! :)

Re: Tobin's Spirit Guide! (NEW sample pic pg. 4)

I love the idea of this project. As a life long GB, I've been waiting for something like this.
Questions, are you Including Ivo Shandor? Didn't see the name on the list...and Egon mentions finding his name in the book.
Shador started the gozer society in the 1920's.
Also may want to make a footnote on the Vigo page...*for more on Vigo reference MAGICIAN's MARTERS AND MADMEN
