TNG Phaser

Last few days I have spent cleaning out my work shop and going through boxes that I haven't been through in 20 years or more.

I found lots of neat stuff from my Paramount days and this was one of them. In addition to this I found some COM badges too from TNG and Voyager.

I plan to keep this Phaser and build it up. It's from the molds that were made for the stunt and or BKG phasers I'm pretty sure. I might even hallow it out and add some electronics. It was given to me by a friend in the prop department.

I have no pictures or reference for this prop and thought maybe you guys might help. I know much more about TOS and modeling building than props. Any help would be appreciated.

Ah yes, the famed TNG Cobrahead. Straighter and sleeker than the "Dustbuster" used in early seasons. The Cobra went through several design iterations, getting smaller and more angular. It was also used on DS9 and early Voyager, but was ultimately replaced with the Boomerang design.

Photo from Rodd.com, probably of their built HMS kit. These Cobra phasers originally had a green LED meter just like the Dustbusters had, but it eventually went away and later season Cobras are just blank on top.

3rd season Cobra ("Vengeance Factor") with LED power gauge

3rd season Cobra ("The Hunted"). Note that the "grip" is on the opposite side, for left handed use.

7th season Cobra with no power meter ("Genesis")

Note that the "Vengeance Factor" phaser has got the square buttons on top in beige and the trigger is silver... but the "Genesis" phaser has the colors reversed. The VF phaser also has two shades of gray on the emitter nose, but the "Hunted" emitter is all gray, and the "Genesis" emitter is all black.

The 3rd season example also has the small presstype numbers which also show up on this "Propstore of London" photo
