Firemedic, great suit, What light did you use for the chest?

Re: TMP Iron Man. April 2010, New chest, midsection and upper legs.

I bought a 4.25" diameter .25" thick piece of aluminum 1" deep. I hand-polished it and handcrafted all the pieces inside. 33 ultra-bright L.E.D.s powered by 3 9-volt batteries. There's a small switch under the chest piece. When a photo is taken in a room that's a bit darker, the chest piece comes out like a solid bright white light. :lol

Here's a pic of what i looks like:

Here's the darker room: (sorry for the blurry pic, the person taking it was a bit sauced!)

Stunning it looks like CGI but it's real, too cool.

Greetings DecaturVadur!

No deconstruction of any preexisting electronics on the ARC.

It's made 100% from scratch. I think I bought a pre-cut 1/4" thick 1" deep and 4.25" diameter piece of aluminum. I polished it to a mirror stainless steel finish. I built the structure inside with the purpose of making it look like it went 8" deep in the chest. I then placed the 33 Ultra-Bright LEDs in the structure and painstakingly soldered all the wiring. (resistors and all). I found an electrical conduit ring that fit perfectly. I drilled some small holes around the front ring and glued some small black mechanical bolts so it looked like it was holding the glass in place. (lexan) The wiring goes out the back and connects to 3 9-volts. (Not 100% sure on the 4.25" diameter, but I tried a 3.5" and a 4" and they just looked small. I have a wide chest and 4.25" looked right. It also happened to fit Johns TMP's Mark III perfectly.)

Had I to do it again I may go with a piece 3/4" deep. I had to sand and file the 1" down quite a bit because it stuck out an extra 1/4" after I put the ring and lexan plastic in the front.

Re: TMP Iron Man. April 2010, New chest, midsection and upper legs.

Oh yeah...about the black straps down the side of the abdomen....

I have a black military harness on (the kind that has loops that snap on around a soldiers belt to help distribute weight) to help hold the legs in place and distribute the weight. It works GREAT, but it makes my torso a little thicker. The Abdomen segments didn't quite overlap to conceal the velcro with the harness so I made some small side "plates" to join the front and back sections. I dont need it without the harness, but with it I do.

Also I use BUNGIE cords to hold up the legs! They are held up by the snap-on loops and are great because they have some give when you walk. To counter the "bounce" of the leg, I have an adjustable "Stir up" of velcro at the ankle/foot area that holds equal pressure downward toward the foot and the bungies pull up so the legs look and feel solid when I walk. I did the same with the arms at the shoulder bells. There is some give in all the joints which makes it more comfortable.

:)

Re: TMP Iron Man. April 2010, New chest, midsection and upper legs.

The Vest kinda looks like this. I took off all the pockets and "extras" that were not needed. You see the "snap on" loops at the bottom? I run bungies and hook them to the opposite sides (left side goes to right leg, etc.)

Re: TMP Iron Man. April 2010, New chest, midsection and upper legs.

Could you help with what you used inside your helmet? Like a parts list and pics. That would be really cool. I am a big fan of your upgrades. Great Work
