Mine just arrived! One HUGE box rocked up at work. Luckily the rocket itself isn't too heavy, despite being...HUGE. I was on foot today so I binned the box and set off for the train station after work with the rocket slung over one shoulder like a swag on a stick. Got some funny looks. :lol
Same problem here. Despite plenty of packaging care by Wasili, the shippers managed to puncture the box with the nose cone. Pic attached - no biggie, as you can see. I might make a detachable nosecone/antenna piece, which should make life easier in moves.

By the way, Wasili did the buildup, gratis. It's a very tidy job. :thumbsup
Wasili, you underpromised and overdelivered, man. All that expectation-management stuff re supposed casting and finishing flaws was way over the top; I've got very little filling and sanding to do at all before I can hit this thing with primer.

I'm happy that you're happy. Too bad the tip got damaged. If i should ever send another one, it'll have a 2 - 3 inch foam block on the top.
And funny you carried it on your shoulder back from work. I did the same with the first one i build back in '95, from home to work and back, when i didn't have a workshop of my own.
Looking forward to the final result. You mentioned rivets, didn't you ?

Cheers Wasili! Yeah, I think that'd be the way to go, for sure. The packaging was great, it just received abuse beyond what it could stand. One of my Weta D9 guns arrived broken, so it's not the packaging, it's the **^*^^$*#%%%ing couriers. We have endless trouble with them at work. Arseclowns, the lot of them! (With apologies to forumites with DHL or Fedex experience; I know it's not all onesided. Just venting.)
TBH I would likely have made a new tip anyway - I'm planning a separate unit attached with magnets, should make transport easier, and safer too. This thing could easily take out an eye, or worse.
Re rivets, I'm thinking again! The epoxy is too hard for my rivetmaker tool and I'm not going to punch ten thousand individual flush rivets, I'll never get it done. I may content myself just by adding the engine and scribing in the main panels, hatches, retractable ladder rungs etc. Maybe the big attitude control thruster too. Started on the main panels tonight.

I'm so happy you decided against rivets Martyn. It would not have looked nice IMO.
Well, I wasn't going to go for steampunky domed iron jobs - aviation-style flush rivets would be the go. Perfectly apposite for 1950. We know the ship has a lot of features Herge didn't bother to draw, after all, like the big attitude thruster. We know where it is, but you only ever see it while it is operating. The ship has a ring antenna around the nose spike, too, which is visible in only a few panels. Interior views make it clear the ship's got a robust bulkhead and frame construction so I figure rivets HAVE to exist; how else is the skin held on? :lol
It was just a question of how subtle or obvious to make them - but that said, I won't much miss them, either. Perhaps they were puttied and sanded over, like a Messerschmitt 262.
I am scribing in those panels though. Dead set on that.

Ha, no. I've been on leave for the last week and have two more ahead. It's on my desk ready to go. Every day has been "the day", but family stuff has intervened nonstop. I've scribed up the chequerboard pattern, that's all so far.
Got to cut off the tip of the nose and rebuild it, and do a little more scribing. I'll also make an engine nozzle. It's like two hours work and I just can't get to it! Will post pics when I do.

I really love the shape of the rocket, a timeless design.
from the beginning I already had the idea to turn in into a functional object, so decided to make it into a bedside table, with lights
and this is the main idea.
