Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

So here's how it goes:
Base, Tap, Seal, Brush, Rinse, Detail, Tap, Seal, Brush, Rinse, Party, Oil, Towel, Wash, Gloat.

If you have questions let me know.
Laffo.

That's great Laffo, thanks for taking the time. I would never have thought to do the "rinse" to set it.

Isn't greasepaint kind of bad for your skin? Like acne in a tub?

I know the move towards the newer water based, powder based, etc makeups was to avoid the oil base in the old clown whites that clogged your pores, kept your skin from breathing, and caused blemishes. Now this is barring what I know about whether or not its been upgraded for the new age. Have they made it more hypoallergenic?

That's why soap and water was invented.

I think most are picking up embroidered iron-on patches. :) They're relatively cheap and much easier to apply and hold their shape much better than embroidering directly onto a garment.
yeah i figured and the whole embroidery thing would be tricky unless you have a machine that can do it
im just going with the patch cause there everywhere

I pose a question to you'all! Do you think MH's pants lace changes as does his wrist lace depending upon his "feelings?" Reason I ask is because I may go with one color for all the lace!

It appears to be not just the wrist lace, but the entire shirt as well as his coat. Seems to me the lace on the pants would be the perfect way to extend the mood of the hatter using color. So my guess would be yes.

Is that Gene Simmons in that first pic.?

Love, love, love how the suit looks in that last pic! :D

If everything ends up changing colours, this is going to be one of the best costumes ever. Everyone will be right and no one will be wrong and there are going to be so many versions! LOVE that!

And I can't wait to start my Red Hearts dress...so fun...can't wait to see a nice full view of it!

I think for the Hatters wig, I've opted to get a heat stylable, dyable one and then I will go to WalMart and pick out the shade of red/orange/ginger that it is and voila. Seems like the easiest route to go...

I used a black crochet scalloping for the 'lace' on the pants. Actual lace was a bit too frilly and flamboyant for me. Not that crochet scalloping is much more masculine but I think it looked better. Added a bit more dark to the costume to tone down the circus of colour. It was relatively cheap and could easily be spongepainted with fabric paints to have the orange and green multi look too...

CJS, the lace on the inside of the cuffs is how it's supposed to be! You can see it in the test-photo where he's holding the bunny, the lace comes from the inside of the shirt cuffs, so good call on that one. :) ( and yes, I totally realize I'm crossing discussion in different threads here ).

Being so lazy with Alice now...all that's left is the flower and I still haven't done it. Though I did make the petals...I just have to assemble it and put the ribbons in the middle. I'm really, REALLY procrastinating...AND THERE'S JUST OVER A MONTH LEFT! :O

Ha Ha! Thanks love! Actually the crocheted lace that you used is exactly what I got today from JoAnns in white. I have decided to go all PINK! What feeling is that to MH? Who knows! Happy I hope!

Anyway that is similar stuff I am going to use!!

I am so so so excited watching your costume come together. You have no idea how much it impresses me that you put your own creativity into it and kind of personalize it ( like the D-fly brooch, too )! I can't wait to see the end product! It will be something truly unique!

Anyways, there are pictures of the Hatter similing and laughing when his shirt is blue, too, which one would assume means he's sad. I have no idea what is going on with that colour-changing thing. Maybe he just has a technicolour dream wardrobe.

T-4 days til I embark on my 'remake the hatter' mission for the month of February. I've got some interesting tactics planned for the aging of the coat. *drums fingertips together*. Hopefully it all works out. :S Dreading lining that sucker though. That is one of the things I'm the worst at...:(
