I could tell it was not screen used, so I didn't bother getting closer

hey
im embarking on a quest to create the Sporran that Hatter wear in the battle scene
does anyone have any good pictures of it

Richard i know you made a beautiful one
could you help a brotha out XP

Yo,
I used this picture from the book.
sporranbook.jpg

in photoshop I straightened it out
copied the left side flipped it mirror image
to complete the right side.
then traced it in illustrator and had it lasercut.

i have 2 more plexiplates cut in the sporran shape
which i will sell in september.

bought blonde synthetic hair and used "B wild!!"
temp spray hair colors.

i thought about making a mold of mine
and selling them for halloween but i just
dont see a demand for "SPOT ON" hatter costumes.
(wish the DVD came out in august that would have
made Halloween sales much bigger.)
i think the masses will buy off the rack junk.

the REAL costumers are here on this thread and make
their own stuff for the most part.

Do they sell hats at the hat shop do they? Get back to the hat shop dude! Go Mojo go!

of course they do, but the Hatter hats they sell you don't want. They are "crushable" and include yak hair extensions.

The only good piece from these souvenir hats is the pink hat sash.

Holy cow! My buttons came in! Two sets! They are identical!!! Now it is time to see if I can reproduce them. It appears that the 1 inch is the ones to use. I also have 3/4 inch and 9/16 inch. Opinions?????

thanks Richard, that picture is just what i needed
ill be using this PVC foam stuff Panda is getting for one of her costumes
but where can i get the little cone caps for the black hairs?
i cant find sporran parts anywhere, i can only find cantles

and Savvy take good pics of it ok ^^

and i have my fingers crosses as to if you can get the buttons recast
ill totally buy 12 if you can ^^

I think there are 10 buttons total but I could be wrong.

I am going to test out some cold casting this weekend but I need to find some brass powder locally. If not I will have to order online.

I am more up to the 1 inch size which means I only have two. Frappacino!!! I have six 3/4 inch but they are tiny compared to scale of JDs hand!

yeah, i cant tell if there are 12 or 10, you can see the top ones cause of the tie
so if you figure it out, ill get 12 just to be safe ^^

I'd go 1" charles.
but if you got enough rubber
mold both 1" and 3/4". also i'll look in the garage..
i think i have brass powder.
i'll let you know.

Make a hat!

I've been considering it. :) I start school mid August, and I have to go to Virginia the 2 weeks before that. So I won't have time to do it after then. Or much time anyway. So I'd have to finish it all before the end of July.

(I also need to read a Geometry, essay, and punctuation book by then. Forgot about that. :angel )

May I see this pic? I can't seem to find much good reference.

Is the main body made of white hair with orange strands in it or is it just dirty?

seeing it in person.. its actually got 4 colors in it predomitaly white/off white
orange pink brown red.

CHARLES..
after going into photoshop i hearby officially think you should go with 3/4"
buttons.better yet decide for yourself by taking you buttons to FIDM and compare.

WHOA! Jodo is really gearing up to make his hat!! A Geometry book (I can see that in the hat's design phase), an Essay book (I can see that for the Tutorial / How To Guide), and finally the Punctuation book (I can see that for proof reading said Tutorial / How To Guide before it goes into production)!

Very well prepared Jodo!!:lol

Oi! I only have the cr@ppy type of molding material for Sculpey clay. Similar to the rubber stuff but I am going to do a test run this weekend in both sizes. I'll use clear resin (junk I got from Michaels) as a test run. I need the high end mold rubber. Smooth On is the one I was looking at online.

I am more apt to say 3/4 inch judging from the size of JDs fingers. I sent you the photo via SMS to your cell.

ACME! Are you going to FIDM on Saturday June 12? I don't care about the contest but a photo op with the real deal costumes would be awesome!

The buttons have a flat back with a hole in the raised metal. The front appears to be a cap placed on the backing. I think making them with a shank is the way to go. The real deals are hollow and don't have much weight to them. Resin cold cast with brass would be nice with some added weight.

Here is the back and a penny for scale:
