Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland Costumes

Sad, the movie to me was a letdown and I do not think I will be continuing with my Mad Hatter costume. Seems like a lot of hype and work to go into something that wasn't what I thought it would be! Thanks to everyone for the help. Good luck with your costumes!

Just saw the movie, and I wouldn't consider it a let down Veach. :lol :p ;) True I expected a little bit more, but as far as the Mad Hatter goes, I loved it.

What did he throw at the Ace of Knaves at the end though? It looked gold but I couldn't tell.

I think I'm going to stick with my navy pants as well. They looked alot like the color they are during the movie, so I'm going to go with them. Just need to get my tie, coat and vest together now. And the baldric! :D

So was it worth all that hard work, late nights, all nighters, bloody fingers, finger cramps???? I need motivation here people!!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily I have 48 more hours since we are going on Saturday to the El Capitan 24 hours before the Oscars!!!

So the night YOU are Hatter, I will be Jack.... how funny - except I will be at a benefit, not a movie.

Something I STRONGLY feel the need to say...see it twice.

The first time I LOVED it but did feel a smidge disappointed. The second time I was just swooning and completely down the rabbit hole in love. I think the reason for this is that the story is so choppy and fast moving that it's all a blur of randomness the first time you see it, the second, you know what's going on and you understand it more so you can just sit back and enjoy. At least, that's how I felt tonight. And it was WONDERFUL! AND IT GOT AN APPLAUSE AT THE END! And my heart was happy. This movie is already INCREDIBLY dear to me.

A mini report on our night...it was AMAZING. Travis looked phenomenal again, of course ( at least everyone said so lol ). We put some more makeup on, had the thimbles and all the hat pins ( but of COURSE....by the end of the night we had LOST the flower one. :cry I guess it's a sign that it needed to be remade anyways...I loved that little bebe though! :( ) The workers were SO excited when they saw us, of course, the girl that I mentioned before who recognized him as Jack when he was Sweeney tonight recognized him as Sweeney when he was Hatter. LOL She was floored and called him her hero and asked to shake his hand! A bunch of little kids kept peering around the corner, running away, coming back and saying " Is it really him? It's really him, OMG! It's really him!! " and asked for pictures and autographs...alas they nor we had pens... LOL TONS of teenagers wanting pictures too, guys and girls which was cool. We're going to be splattered around Facebook in a matter of hours, I'm sure. AND the Manager came over and said " I hear your letting people take pictures. ", Travis replied " Ah...yes...but...only if they ask..." thinking we were going to get in trouble but he whipped out 4 free movie passes and gave them to us!! :D Said we were great and did a great job on the costumes. Woo hoo!

Unfortunately, plans for an outdoor photoshoot didn't go over as planned since, again, we were running late and by the time we got out of the house the sun was setting, which was all fine and grand for photos except the temperature dropped about 10 degrees...Canada. >_< There's a giant floral clock in the Falls but it was entirely covered in snow...as were all of the gardens ( obviously ) and we didn't have time to visit the Bird Kingdom ( which is basically an indoor rainforest ) or the Butterfly Conservatory. :( So real outdoor photos will have to wait until springtime. BOOOOOO!! But we got a lot of shots from the theatre so I'll post some of those. :)

Anyways...um...( as in...not sure what I was saying here, not 'Undead Monkey' :lol ) YEAH. Movie is amazing. Loved it more the second time. Costumes were EXTREMELY well received. Loved it. Couldn't be happier and more appreciative than I am right now. :)

Hope everyone has just as wonderful experiences when they wear theirs!

Aelynn, that's exactly what I was saying about the relentless pace of the movie. There's so much detail and terminology coming at you, the first time is a bit like the first time you see Star Wars. It blossoms with repeat viewings. Having read the screenplay, I felt able to squeeze a little more than most out of that first viewing. Took the wife to see it for her first time and my second, and we were both enjoying it thouroughly, but on different pages for certain.

I'm pretty much head over heals.

(Also have a crush on Mallymkun.)

:lol !!! Don't you love how the back cover features rabbits, too? :D And a lizard...but it kind of looks like a caterpillar if you don't know it's a lizard. >_>... And please ignore the fact that he sat on his coattails and pulled the whole coat down. He is not very careful in his costumes. I guess it also serves me right for using a silky lining that slips all over the place. :lol

Yeah, I deffintly plan to see it again before it's off at our theater. (It'll proboly only run 2-3 weeks here.) The two teen kids behind me loved the movie, but they were as high as kites. :lol I could smell just a wee bit o' pot on them when they sat down. Guess they literaly wanted to go to Wonderland. :lol

Only about 30 people came to the theater I went to. It was VERY empty for a 4:00 showing.

This is why I hate when the officially licensed CR@PPACINO comes out!! It doesn't do the movie versions justice and it seems to cheapen all of our hard work!!! The bloody hat pins don't even look like the movie version. Also the pattern doesn't even resemble the movie version!!!

The cheaper version looks more like the movie version. At least they got the pattern and the gold thread correct....even though it is just printed.

I think I will stick with my "custom built" stuff!!!

By far, the custom stuff is much nicer...I just ran ran across this and thought i would share. I did the discount sparrow costume too, I know how pricey things can get, Do you have pics of yours around?

i just got back from the theater again
and boy did people flip, we had so many people wanting pictures, 4 hours of just being awesome
and im going back to do it again tomorrow

i think i did better with my make up this time
im really not that good at it, Panda did it the first time and it was amazing, i just cant do it as well as her
its funny cause my costume isnt even near done, yet people are sill like
"OMG! Its Johnny Depp!"

ok sleepy time, im so tired now

Love it Nick!!! Makes me want to make my Garden dress that much more...UGH. This movie is controlling my life.

I do, however, think that with a key ingredient being urine of a horsefly, it should perhaps be a bit more....golden... :lol

Here's my n00b photoshop manip of the day!!

" The world is falling apart and poor Chess is off his tea. Slacking urpal slurvish scrum!!! "
* insert other demonic ranting and echos and thunderstorm here*

My mom was not pleased when she saw how we were using her china. :lol

I say, has anyone got pictures of the display at the El Cap? I hear tell these costumes are different from what we've seen. . . .

lol, nice aelynn! :D

And is just me...or was the SDCC vest never featured in the film? And my luck of corse....As it's my favroite vest. :(

OK! Pics of the hero costume coming soon!

What did I learn from looking at the hero costume? Scale! I could not believe how tiny everything is!!!

- The ribbons attached to the safety pin are no wider than 1/4 inch. The pin is 4 inches wide (best guesstimate).

- The cuff on the sleeve of the coat (from top of trim to bottom of trim) is no taller than four inches.

- Good luck finding spools for thread for your bandolier! Each one was no wider than 1/2 inch.

- The peacock feather in the hat was TINY!!!! The black jewel in the center representing the spot was no larger than a US 10 cent dime!

- Definitely 12 brass buttons on the vest. They are separated out about 2 -2 1/2 inches apart. The vest squares are about 1 inch by 1 inch so that would be 2 1/2 squares.

- The hat pins you see in promos are the same. The sunflower pin was missing from the hat.

- The hat is a very dark to medium shades of brown.

- Everyone's jackets are definitely on the money however the shine is not present in bulk. We definitely have to reduce the shine by weathering up the coat.

- Hero's shoes did have engravings in them. DOWNAL is one of the words. Need to edit and blow it up.

I am still uploading and editing the photos so give me moment to catch up!

Is there a source for these ties? I noticed some of them on your costumes look pretty good. I was thinking of doing a custom run of ties but wanted to see what was already available (to see if it was worth while).

I'm also thinking of attempting a coat, vest, shirt and pants, but will likely have to cut corners on some of the custom embroidery, etc, leaving that to the buyer. If anyone is interested in helping me out with photos etc, shoot me an e-mail.

Thanks,
Magnoli

Indy, Toby offers a tie, but I beleive he has a very limited supply of fabric. Otherwise, as far as good nice ties go, he's the only I've seen offer anything.

EDIT - Um, I can't beleive the safty pin fabric is that small. Thanks for the info. :)
