Ha ha!

If I were anyone's apprentice it would be Don Roberts. Glad to see you on the RPF. There are lots of foam rubber builders here.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Partial Suit Up Pics- 6/09

Few new pics guys.. the new, reworked shoulder... and I've ordered rare earth magnets that are being used to keep the neck and side abs and other areas closed to suit up. Pictures here illustrate as such... oh yeah... I also used a dremel to create the recessed areas for the magnets.. which are 2mm and my foam 4mm.. so the magnets sit flush with the foams surface.

Jordan ya also said ya used alot of freehand cuttin techniques. Ya cuts are on that takes skill bra crappy cut leave crappy results your cuts are are perfect. Everything that I've seen is seamless.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Partial Suit Up Pics- 6/09

I'm gonna steal the magnet idea. That's genius man.

Jordan really likin th' new modified shoulder bell could ya post a pic of a side an back view of it? I like how it fits /w/ th' bicep piece. Inventive idea /w/ th' magnets.

AMAZING MAN!!.. this inspires me soo much.. by chance could u share where u got the foam? and is it all 4mm because the chest piece seems a lot thicker at some places did u just keep layering it on top?

Thanks! I really do take my time on these cuts... I guess it helps in the long run.

It works like a charm. However I cannot take credit. IndieFilmGeek aka Jon gave me the idea and linked me to the magnets online.

I will get some pics of this soon man.

Sure I will hook you up with my foam vendor. IndieFilmGeek uses the same stuff for his sons build... and yes everything you see is 4mm. It's all about layering.. and creating angles that strengthen and keep the shape of things.

Hey Jordan, any tips on dremmeling the foam? I'd have thought it would've ripped it to bits but your cuts look really smooth.

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Partial Suit Up Pics- 6/09

Yeah it didn't rip it up at all. I think the reason why is because I used one of those pink colored stones bits... and I used it from the top of the tip rather than the side... then I gently pressed down and made small circular motions. It made recesses perfectly round that looked like they were machined right into the foam. I was quite impressed. I'll be putting all the grooves and details in my armor using these stone bits.

Yeah it looks amazing, like it was punched in with a machine or something, gonna have to try it myself now, I'm sure I'll be able to get it to rip the foam to bits :lol

Stone bits for foam detailing... never would have even considered that! AWESOME that it worked! This has TOTALLY been added to my building arsenal.

Glad the magnets worked for the neck. Have you tested the abs yet? I'm still worried that those might not work for an area with that much torque and seam stress. Let me know how it goes! :):thumbsup

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Partial Suit Up Pics- 6/09

Glad I could help you as much as you've helped me already... as for the Abs.. I have already installed them in the side part of the ab.. I put in 3 and they hold just fine even when I push my gut out. lol

Having seen pictures of you, I wasn't worried about your gut pushing the seams open -- I was a bit more concerned with what happens when you twist at the waist.

Now, if I was going to wear a suit like this I'd have to have some INDUSTRIAL strength magnets to keep my belly in those abs! My under-armor would need to be control garments. :lol

Re: EVA Foam Mark VI Iron Man Build - Partial Suit Up Pics- 6/09

MR. GJ, this is cutting edge work bro. I am speechless going through this thread page by page and seeing the magic you're putting up here man. I am attempting a pep build right now and this mind you is my first attempt at anything of this complexity. What I want to know is that being a noob like myself what is the best material to work with. I see that you mastered the art of both foam and pep, what would you say is easier to work with and better to build with? Folding all this cardstock has got me twisted and wanting to burn it all lol. HELP PLEASE!!!! lol Thanks
