Thor - first pic of Thor! (spoiler?)

Looks very promising, in my opinion. The Thor costume is something that can EASILY be done wrong. You can either go too literal, or too far in the other direction. I've seen some wonderfully accurate real-world interpretations of the comic book suit. They match what you see on the page perfectly... but look a little dorky in real life. Then there's what we got in the Hulk movie. Kind of the other direction. More of a viking/barbarian look.

I think this costume walks that line in between quite well. They've obviously kept the "signature" components of the suit while making it look more modern, updated, and plausible. The colors are more muted, but they are still there. I like it.

Let's hope marvel can hit it out of the park again with this franchise. While Thor was never a favorite character of mine, neither was Iron Man. And look how well that turned out.

Those sleeves ruin the costume for me (at least in that pic).
I always thought the criss cross pattern of the comics was a lazy way of drawing chain mail or overlapping armor scales. This interpretation looks like rubber, not metal. It doesn't really make any sense to me. It doesn't seem like they put much thought into "real-world" construction.

Chris, I have to agree 100 percent. And the armor does not look a bit like metal either. But maybe that´s got something to do with it´s origin? Maybe they will create a "rule" for that, some background?

Thor with facial hair? He looks more like his dad ODIN!

I wonder if Odin will be making an appearance?

Clearly, you don't remember the Walt Simonson years of the mid-80s.

As long as they don't give him rubber ears (like the Salinger Captain America), I'll live with the arms :p ;)

The arms don't really have a very metallic look. I think I'm reserving judgement on that aspect until I see it in motion. I think it'd look a bit better if it were shinier (other than that quibble I love it). I've seen folks on other movies making a big deal out of how they've got the technology now to do true metallics/chrome on flexible rubber type parts (like some of the stunt costume parts in Iron Man.) Not sure why they didn't do something a *bit* shinier for that, particularly considering how shiny that Destroyer armor is.

so this will lead to iron man III -

which will feature the Mark VI, VII, and VIII suits - with a special cameo of the thorbuster?

I'm surprised they pulled out Thor - I figured Iron Man would go into space first - or have a clash with already existing people -like the Hulk or something. Introducing Thor really sets the bar high being that he really does have to look "godly" in some way.

(always thought the thorbuster looked like a cat... weird.)

I dig the Granov Hulkbuster armor... definitely NOT liking that "Thorbuster" armor :p I really would like to see the space armor and the stealth armor and maybe a cameo or two of the Hulkbuster. That's all I'm hoping for in subsequent IM films.

If that shot in IM2 really is a Thor cameo (has this been confirmed yet?), I doubt it means they'll carry him over much into IM3. Or at least I'd hope they wouldn't... Never say never though, right?

For that matter, I still wish Avengers would just focus on Cap, Hulk, Thor and Iron Man. I really think the first Avengers flick would be best suited to sticking with just those guys and keeping it as simple as possible. I know it won't happen but hopefully it won't turn into another X3.

I would love to see an Avengers Secret Invasion movie. That would be one hell of a way to start the Avengers franchise:thumbsup

Since they used Black Sabbath for IM 1 and AC/DC for IM 2...... I wonder if they will use KISS "God of Thunder" for THOR? Well minus the "of Rock N Roll" part!

Just a thought!

I'm liking the looks so far but the thing that waiting to see is what they do with the hammer! I'm wondering if that'll be a re-design or if they will stay fairly true to the comics.

I'm just glad they didn't go the direction of Thor from the Hulk made for tv movie! :sick The moment Thor throw his hammer then had to run and pick it up... Time to see what else is on! :lol

-B89! :D

He does look big enough to me, as in bulk. Maybe I'm used to the comic image, but he can take on the Hulk hand to hand. This guy doesn't look it. This is the Marvel Thor after all, not the mythic Norse Demi-god of olde.

Well, THIS:

...is 'Hagar the Horrible', & it's pretty freakin' awesome/loltastic. :lol:thumbsup

I dislike the armor. Instead of "this armor makes me look awesome", it says "they made my crappy armor out of plastic and pickle jar lids."

I like it. I've always liked the modern version of the costume, and I think this is a fantastic interpretation (so far)

The Marvel folks came over to Disney about a month ago and brought some stuff for Thor. From the stuff I've seen (mostly actors in front of green screens) it looks pretty promising. Chris Hemsworth is way taller than I expected. For some reason, as Kirk's dad in Star Trek, he seemed tiny.

My thought, just thinking out loud here, is that withOUT sleeves, the costume might look odd - like something out of He-Man.

I think the sleeves were a good choice. We can only go by this ONE photo, but it looks okay to me.

My question is this: If they released or leaked one photo, why not give us a REAL one on Marvel.com or whatever?

I'd like to see it up close. Oh, the beard looks good. Why would a small beard be a problem for Thor?
