Christopher Nolan’s Third Batman Film Will Be Titled ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and Will NOT Feature The Riddler

In an interview published minutes ago, director Christopher Nolan revealed that the title of the third Batman film will be The Dark Knight Rises. He also gave scant details about the plot and direction of the third film. Hit the jump to find out what (little) we know.

The news comes from Geoff Boucher over at Hero Complex, who was able to score a coveted interview with the secretive director. “It won’t be the Riddler,” Nolan said of the third film’s villain, squashing earlier rumors and speculation to the contrary. He also noted, “We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones,” a fairly self-evident yet cryptic statement.

Evidently, Boucher and Nolan also chatted about convincing Warner Brothers to go with IMAX instead of 3D for the film, which I find incredibly encouraging. Boucher says that information will be made available later today. We’ll update you guys when we hear about it.

Is anyone sad to see the Riddler eliminated from contention? Note that Nolan already took Mr. Freeze out of the running back in March. Also, what do you guys think of the title? Despite re-using the entire title of the second film, I think it has a nice poetic ring to it.

I swear i'm the only one who didn't like the last movie lol. I guess it is because i didn't like Ledger as an actor and he wasn't a traditional Joker. Considering you have nearly 70 years of enemies you think they'd come up with someone not overused.

My only concern is not enough character development that most franchises seem to fall into. Too many new characters and not enough time spent to care what happens to them. Keep it one bad guy at a time. The last movie was really pushing the envelope but barley managed to pull it off.
Now the last Spiderman movie...
The last X-men movie...
Batman and Robin...
Fantastic Four...
See a pattern? :sick

it was only successful because of his death overall. If he had been alive it would have been just " another" super hero movie.

Actresses who are offered a part, BEWARE. Nolan's films have a reputation of handling female characters like Star Trek handles red shirts. If you're not a deranged suicidal emotional psychopath, your character will probably be dead by the halfway point in the movie. Nolan's movies are about as female friendly as a rusted metal tampon. What? You don't think that Anna Ramirez wasn't supposed to be Renee Montoya who, despite a different name matches all of Renee's descriptions?

Nope. You're not. i didn't like it either.

I dont think Ellen Paige died in Inception... and I cannot recall a single female death in The Prestige. :confused

I HATED Begins, but really liked TDK. The Joker was amazing, and I don't think Ledger's death influenced my opinion, frankly. I realized he was an astounding actor on Brokeback Mt. I hope this third one is just as good as the second! I also hope they don't try to do the Joker with a new actor. That would be a mistake. I'd love to see more Scarecrow. He's a strong villian, and I love Cillian Murphy.

If we could get Nolan to replace Bale as Batman, then it may be good.

The other two stunk because of his crappy acting and that stupid voice.

Nope your not the only one.

For me it will always be Nicholson as the best Joker, with the 60's campy Joker being a close 2nd.

Begins was meh. I liked it but it didn't grab me the way Keaton's Batman did. There was no origin story, it was straight into the Batman "myth" and then as the story developed you get introduced to the tragedy of Bruce Wayne, THAT was a great way to tell the story. I'm kinda tired of well this is the origin story and then the next movie will be the main course type of super hero movies.

Not a fan of TDK either. I almost walked out on it. It was the $30.00 I spent on it that made me stay till the end! :lol
Begins was a great movie. Then it sprialed down with TDK. I agree with the one villian approach. It's hard enough to go from a villian's back story to his death in 90 minutes as it is, let alone deal with three villians at a time!

I totally disagree with that statement just for the simple fact the joker (Heath Ledger) had to fill some big shoes if you know what I mean.89 joker (Jack) fans like myself was beyond excited to see the job heath was gonna do with the character. If heath was still alive today the tdk would probably be even bigger now knowing he could of continued his role and even make himself more of a joker icon today.Heath did an amazing job hands down.Dead or alive you have to give him credit when credits due.I agree with you to a certain extent about his death playing a role in ticket sales of course but if he was terrible in the part then we can sing that tune but that's not the case.Heaths role can never be duplicated by anyone and i think that says something.

I agree but Mark Hamill is in the running as the animated one. I like my joker insane but in a creepy clown way the way he has been in the comics for decades. He's nuts but he's at least doing it with a smile and a laugh. I do admit i like the new batsuits and i love the new batmobile though.

KING TUT!!!!

I didn't like TDK except for Ledger. Everything else seemed to be missing what was in the first one. Whatever that was.

The only good part with Ledger was when he goes to blow up the hospital and it doesn't go off at first. lol. I'd love to see them explain King Tut in the dark knight universe.

If it's true what Nolan said about the IMAX vs. 3D then kudos to him for fighting that one. Getting really tired of 3D everything. 3D does not equal my deciding factor to see a movie. It is a gimmick that needs to retire, but won't because it brings in a lot of high-dollar ticket sales.

I didn't like either Begins or TDK and I didn't like Superman Returns, either, because I don't think Superman and Batman should be younger than I am. :cry

The only way I'd like a Batman film now would be if they'd get a full CGI Clint Eastwood from 1985 and do a photorealistic THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS.
