The World's End - Gary King costume. Sources, images, ideas?

It's a tour t-shirt he's wearing (possibly THE best British band may I add) just take it to a shirt printers and get them to do it, shouldn't cost much.

A shirt printer without a 24 shirt minimum is hard to come by. I have a friend of a friend that could do a small run though, if anybody's interested. I could make a thread in the junkyard if we could get 5-10 people together.

For those of us who must get every detail right, I've added some links to the original post for hospital bracelets and an idea to duplicate Gary King's Sisters of Mercy chest tattoo.

The ebay link you've got for the t-shirt is 1984, not 85. Do you think it's possible that the creator of the redbubble shirt would add the 1985? Is there a way to contact them?

I'm not sure. I'm just going to use the 1984 shirt - I bought it before I noticed that it was the wrong date. I reckon it's barely ever visible in the movie, so it's not too big a deal for me.

On the subject of authenticity, I've reproduced Gary's chest tattoo if anyone wants to use it as a template, this should print out at the correct size, and if we fill in all the grey parts with a black gel pen (I made it grey so that when we fill it in, we won't miss any parts), we should be able to make it transfer as a temporary tattoo. The image is reversed so that it transfers the right way around:

You can just print it onto wax paper and the printer ink will transfer to your skin. It would have to be black for that to work.

That's a good idea. Here's a black one:

Here's a screencap from the film, for positioning purposes:

Thought I'd post this here... I took part in making a short video for a geek website last weekend as Gary King... we made a visit to a pub with a familiar name ;)

Hello everyone! Sorry to wake up a dead thread, but I just thought I'd reply with some helpful information.

First off, I'm working on a Gary King costume for this year's Halloween, but I'm working on a budget, so I won't be able to get all the jewelry just yet.
HOWEVER, I have attained some pretty accurate items for my costume, most due to the help from this thread! So, thanks everyone!

Anyway, I promised helpful info and I shall deliver! I looked at the sunglasses provided in the first post and to be honest I wasn't pleased with them. They were either too expensive, too cheap, or not exactly right. Anyway, looking at those, I came across this gem: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001IVW9E0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I ended up purchasing these shades, and I honestly think they're PERFECT. They're not only very nice quality, but they also come with a carrying pouch and hard-case to protect them. Now, as costume makers, we don't look for a good product, we look for an accurate one.
And lemme say, these are incredibly accurate. If you look at this photo:
simon-pegg-the-worlds-end.jpg
Note the construction of the frames, the tint, and the blueish-green sheen they have to them. Well, the sunglasses I linked match all of those categories, including the sheen. So if I were to rate them, it'd be a straight 'A.'

Also, check your local thrift stores for coat options! I was lucky enough to find this one which matches my frame and looks fairly accurate:

Also, for those costumers that don't like leather, I found a great pair of boots at Target that I plan to pick up that seem like they'd work pretty well in place of Gary King's Dr. Martens: http://www.target.com/p/men-s-mossi...ots-black/-/A-15265000#item-guestreviews-link

Hope this helped someone! Happy costuming!

Hi all!

I'm in the late stages of making a Gary King costume (at the time of writing I'm 11 days away from its first use) so I thought I'd post what I've bought/ordered in case anyone needs help, and also for a little bit of help myself. This post should largely concern UK residents as that's where I'm from and where I am.

Sunglasses:
As I wear glasses, a while ago I bought prescription sunglasses so I'm well covered there.

Pendants:

Eye Of Horus - It hasn't arrived yet (well, most of them haven't) but looks to be an absolute bargain at £2.99. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/A-Wax-Cor..._WomensJewellery_Rings_SR&hash=item4178ecb903

Isis - I bought this one for £12.50 and it seems pretty accurate. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Isis-Knee..._Watches_FineJewellery_CA&hash=item418c5f369c

Unfortunately it isn't available anymore, so I'd say the following looks decent, which costs just a little more: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ISIS-EGYP..._Watches_FineJewellery_CA&hash=item3f2928c746

Ankh - This one is just £5 on its own and £7.50 with a chain, I opted for the latter. http://www.jewellerybox.co.uk/produ...Silver-Small-Ankh-Cross-Pendant-Necklace.html

Sisters Of Mercy shirt: Gary wears a long sleeved shirt with the year 1985 on it, but I couldn't find one. I decided against the option of long/short sleeved shirt without a year as shown earlier from Redbubble, as last time I ordered from there, of course, it took a while to deliver. I thought the 1984 long sleeved shirt might bug me, being one year out. I got a 1985 short sleeved shirt, but it's on my mind about how I won't have finger holes in the sleeves. Here it is if you're interested: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SISTERS-O...mission-bauhaus-cure-ALL-SIZES-/191452327870?

Black shirt: My mum had one that she's letting me use, not sure how I'll go about the finger holes though.

Coat: I found a wool coat in TK Maxx. It's lovely, has nice lining and will be great for general use. I got some buttons from a local shop. I think this is it but I paid more for it instore: http://www.tkmaxx.com/mens-best-of-british/black-double-breasted-overcoat/invt/24059877#

Black jeans: I didn't want to spend money on Levi's as I already have a decent pair of black jeans.

Belt: Again, didn't want to go to the expense as I have a black belt, and don't want to pay for a fancy buckle.

Doc Martens:
Asked my dad for these 1460s for Christmas. They arrived today but I haven't seen them yet: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-New...45?pt=UK_Men_s_Shoes&var=&hash=item4d1cfd9215

Rings:

Onyx Signet -
I went for this one, seems to be the best option for the UK: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/1312...1=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0

This is one which is a bit cheaper but only comes in one size: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sterling-...hes_FineJewellery_CA&var=&hash=item3a9931269c

This seems decent for the US but also only comes in one size: http://www.amazon.com/Stainless-Ste..._sbs_jw_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=1YZS1EPD875C9G9B2QMG

2 Skulls Open Band -
I ordered this one but it won't arrive on time, so if anyone knows of one I could get quickly, please let me know, so I can cancel the order. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00O9N2TT4/ref=ox_ya_os_product

4 Skulls - I haven't found one suitable for me, so again, if anyone is aware of one, please tell me. However, I have found one that those in the US could get: http://www.spencersonline.com/product/so-4-skull-face-9/

Bat - This is the one I bought, I reckon it's the best option for the UK: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAMPIRE-B...hes_FineJewellery_CA&var=&hash=item19efe8017b

Someone on Tumblr posted this one, which ships from Thailand: https://www.etsy.com/listing/183039040/ferocious-bat-ring

A cheaper option for Americans could be this: http://www.amazon.com/Cool-Goth-Vam...ywords=cool+goth+vampire+bat+pewter+ring+band

Star Of David - I was going to get the one on the OP but it would have arrived too late, so I got this one instead, which is a little bit more costly: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BJC-SOLID...hes_FineJewellery_CA&var=&hash=item5af6c75c52

I haven't yet printed off/made the Out Of Order sign or Golden Mile map, so I'll see how that goes. If anyone has any tips from experience or has found anything useful, please tell me. Also, I feel like my hair is a bit too long and thick, so any hair ideas would be great. This thread has been so useful, thank you very much!!

Hi all, reviving a dormant thread as a mate and I are doing Gary and Andy for Oz Comic-Con here in Melbourne this June. I've found the UK-specific "Out Of Order" sign, if anyone is keen! They must be onto us, because the second image with the item listing is the once and future King himself ;)

At five quid/ten bucks it's not the cheapest compliance sign out there, but it does have that delightful whiff of screen accuracy!

Sorry to wake a long dead thread but I was wondering if anyone has ever found a keychain similar to his. I've looked but I can't find a thing. It seems to be black or maybe brown leather with some sort of blue thing in the middle.

Kodiak, those rings are great! Better than what I found, by the look of them. Good find on the oval Star of David ring - that looks to be the exact same ring. The one I'd found is circular and Gary King is pretty clearly wearing an oval ring.

On the sunglasses, you may want to hold off for a couple of days. I got a pair from Amazon yesterday and they're not quite perfect. The bridge is a little high. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I've ordered a couple of other pairs of sunglasses that might be a bit better (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007QP6T7U/ref=oh_details_o02_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CQFOPPI/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). If one of them is clearly better, I'll let everyone know.

Regarding the jeans, they do indeed look like slim fits on young Gary. Amazon offers them at about half the price on offer at the Levi store. I just bought myself a pair of the Rigid Dragons, and they're pretty close to what Gary seems to be wearing. They're not black, but a very very dark blue.

Also, on the jeans, young Gary is not wearing the same jeans old Gary wears - you can see by the cuffs - old Gary's are about the same color inside as out, whereas on young Gary's, the inside is a much lighter color than the outside. Not that I think it really makes any difference, but for the perfectionists out there, this might be an issue. Also, I suspect old Gary is wearing straight-leg jeans rather than slim-fits - they seem to have a bit more room in the leg.

Regarding the boots, did Doc Martens make boots with that lip around the boot tops pre-1991? If so, then the vintage Doc Martens are not right for a Gary King cosplay. If not, then technically speaking, the movie boots can't be right.

The links no longer work. What were the names of the sunglasses?

Hello Everyone!! This thread is awesome and has been such a big help to me create a gary king cosplay and to say thank you! I currently am making his Rehab wristband so if any of you are looking for one hit me up and I'm sure I hook you up with one!!
