The trouble with tribbles and what to do with their hair from the shower drain catch.

Another partially started project, so a bit of backstory on this diorama of James T. Kirk and his, "Trouble with Tribbles". (screencap from Original series):

My goal is to build the walls and background but include only Kirk and the tribbles.

This project is personal protest. I have found that I am entrusted/expected to clean the shower drains in our house. I have experimented with many gadgets and have come upon one that does a superior job of keeping the hair without tangling it up in the plumbing. Although, I have shown the "long hairs" in the family that it is easy to clean, it does not get cleaned until I do it. I decided to collect the hair and make a craft of it to highlight how much was being cleaned (spotlighting that only I am doing it).

My first 10, or so, were called, "Felt Wookie Balls". The wife said this was not exactly a name that could not be misinterpreted and, even then, was not PG (the only rating my projects are allowed). So, after only a brief pause for retrospection, I decided they were tribbles.

Being completely new to diorama and especially to "action figure" modification, I begged the help of pengbuzz to keep me on the path as his long line of diorama projects here on the rpf are stunningly realistic.

I will try to get caught up here on my progress thus far, mostly just purchases, but due to the late hour, I am leaving off here to get some sleep for Mother's Day.

Yes, I'll put my seal of approval on that project. Not only, because like me you're in charge of removing the "critter" from the shower drain, but also to show you that we, men, have the duty of taking care of the dirty jobs around the house:p:p
Here's my silicone hair catcher that I have in my shower; great results and no plugged pipes;):love:

So obviously this company is winning the shower trap race as mine are the same company. I have two of these domed version but then tried their kitchen strainer version because it lays flat. I got two complaints of "longhairs" who stood on the dome and said it should be flat. Went back to the store found this company has the flat version and it works even better because no strands get caught but also get partially into the drain because the flat one has it all stopped on the surface.

That center black piece comes out.

I waffled back and forth on which figure to get but then realized only a few are clothing separate. Many Kirk figures have the clothes painted on. I wanted to zoom in for a realistic shot and that will require a clothing separate figure.

After several auctions, I won this one:

This version is so specific to this scene that it comes with some tribbles

Side note: being a gadget junky, I have numerous shower heads as well. This lead to having one that blasts in a straight line and I use it to powerwash the hair catcher so the resulting material is just one clean hairball. I look back on it now and just cringe at how gross it was before having this shower head option.

In the box, above, you see he has a fully articulating neck. This will draw away from any realism in the shot so back to pengbuzz I went for steps to remedy this. Peng said the world is awash in poorly behaving epoxies but he has a few favorites. The number one on his list, for this EXACT application, Permatex Plastic Welder Cream 5Minute Plastic Weld Adhesive 0.84oz.

It took a stunning amount of time to get this product. Every time I ordered, I would receive a refund and notice of "out of stock". But, I finally found an ebay seller who buys container lots and grabbed a big batch of ten tubes. Yes I only need one. The price was low and shipping was free so it came out to the price of 3 tubes at my local store..... which also does not shelf them and makes me wait for them to have them shipped..... sigh. It is stinky though so do this outside or away from living quarters. I would even suggest a breather mask with canisters. Peng said similar and gloves.

If I would follow greenmachines' lead, I would sleep on the sofa...forever:lol::lol:
I teach by example, not lead by example. It's the old saying, "it is easier to learn from others' mistakes rather than their advice"..... oh wait, no one ever said that..... it's still true and I just said it. So now you have a serious moral crisis of belief or you could just wait and watch....hahahahahhah
