The Winter Soldier - Costume Research Thread

i did a lot of jacket shopping when i was looking for where to get mine, since i can't sew. and I personally recommend DreamLeather from ebay because i am extremely happy with their work. They are very accommodating and will work with you to get the details you want on your jacket. They also offer options such as whether you want real or fake leather, or the pockets on the outside or the inside, or if you want both arms the same, or one arm to be silver leather (both arms are detachable). Here is a link to the listing that is closest to the one i got, but remember he has other similar listings for cheaper versions of the jacket. link here

and here is mine in action:

Hi all -

I've been following this thread for a while and am working on a version of this outfit for a friend. Just thought I'd share a little info on how I've been approaching this outfit. Here's how I attacked the vest & sleeve.

I'm trying this from my iPad, so if the images don't show up I'll post them when I'm back home. Anyway, disclaimer done, so here's the WS 'top' that I've done. The sleeve and under collar are actually a separate piece that fits under the vest. The straps on the front of the vest were all cut and seamed separately, but the facing underneath them is a solid piece of cordura that they are all sewn to - so, you have the effect of separate straps, but they will always be in place and move as a single unit. This piece was made of several different fabrics. The main fabric was a faux leather in a garment weight that was originally a camel color. It was then under sprayed with brown and finished with black - both NuLife color spray by Meltonian. I used a medium weight elastique for the fabric areas and added some extra fabrics in to make the smaller details happen.

Can you post some clearer pics of your jacket?
What nods did you have them do?

the mod i had was the 3 inch collar, the jacket did not have that before but it appears to be included now. the other one was having the pockets inside instead of outside. if i ordered this again i would also have them include the side patterning. but the main thing about DreamLeather's jackets versus FanJackets and others is that they have the backside straps and also offer a silver leather left arm with red star for "casual" wear so even when you're not cosplaying you can still rock a very winter soldier look.

Anybody still need the M4 with M203 Grenade launcher? Decided to take a different approach to mine, so trying to let it go.View attachment 359677

for how much?

Ok, so i just finished pulling some Benchmades out of the molds and I think they look fabulous.
View attachment 353121 I have 2 little things to fix on them which will be extremely easy, but the real one is on the right and the cast is on the left. If you would like on please message me they only cost $10 plus shipping and I can have them shipped soon because I now am out of school. If you would like one please message me and I would be happy to cast one for you. I will be selling the tantos and the Mk. 2 some time next week hopefully.

[strike]Are you still selling these? I'm super interested![/strike] PMed you about ordering!

Same. However, I have messaged a couple people about ordering versions of both the benchmade and the tantos, but no one has responded or shown any interest. With that being the case, if anyone reads this and is interested in selling/making a casting of either, PM me. I'll edit this down if I work something out with someone.

That aside, I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's take on the costume. I am currently working on making some prop versions of the grenade he uses in the street (the one he rolls toward Natasha) and will upload some pics when I finish them.

Are these the things he has in his leg holster? Where exactly is he wearing these things?

the Gerber Mark 2 knife only appears as a replacement to the two small pistols (and again, appears to be kept in a sheath meant for a Cold Steel GI Tanto.)

but for a cosplay, you could theoretically include everything by sandwiching it all together.

Cool! The problem I have is that I have no clue how to properly build that leg thing. I mean, how is it attached to the leg at the bottom. And what are the knives mounted on? Is it just some plastic thing? Because if so, where on earth do you get something like it?

I mean, I had the idea of adding a pouch instead of the knives, but I wouldn't even know what the pouch is called. I've never served in an English-speaking army, so I am very confused.

for the plastic thing look for "polystyrene sheet" they come in different thicknesses, you can cut the holster shape out of that and then nail or glue mounting equipment on it (doesn't have to be complicated, could just be velcro!)

Here's what I did: If you read post 343 in this thread you'll see my description of what I did to end up with this holster and weapons.
The movie does not show all these items in each scene. In the knife fight scene the pistols are missing so it easy to see the Gerber being drawn from a sheath that is not a gerber Mk II 2014_0709ella0012.JPG sheath. Others in this thread have identified it as a tanto sheath but holding the gerber. Regardless, I chose to have all the weapons present so I mounted the gerber in a slot behind the COP .357. It hangs from the belt by a strap. I will probably velcro the holster to the pants to keep it from swinging.

Your jacket looks amazing! Very close to the look I'm aiming for. Did you base it on a particular pattern or did you just draft everything yourself?

Thanks Freakzter. In post 382 of this thread is a picture of the back of my right side holster showing my fastening solutions. I just used magnets on the skorpion and the left side Sig.

I looked into the jacket offered by Dreamleather and it has this bulky forearm guard on the arms.
Not very accurate
