The Winter Soldier - Costume Research Thread

Knife question... so If I don't want to buy the sweet looking amazing cast replicas I've seen here from the other cosplayers, has anyone carved a replica from foam? I mean sheath, handle in one, obviously you can't draw them for photo ops. Specifically the two knives on his back? I could seal them and paint in matte.

I wear a MOLLE vest instead of the shirt/utility belt but I could attach a very lightweight foam knife to the back on the back straps.

Thoughts?

Does anyone know of anyone taking commission for the Winter Soldier jacket? I've looked at a few premade ones listed on Ebay, and they just aren't screen accurate enough for my liking.

Question(s)... can you move your elbow? I see you cast your arm in plaster (?) then cut out all the pieces in Worbla. What did you attach the Worbla to after you formed them to your mold? A fabric sleeve? I can't quite tell.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did the Worbla cost? I've heard it's pricey. Did you use a heat gun or hair dryer to shape it?

How durable is Worbla? Does it wear well (like con activities)?

Thanks!

Just gotta say that jacket is FREAKING AWESOME. I am a "wing and prayer" sewer... no machine and no training. That is really nice work.

yes, DreamLeather on ebay will make any custom modifications you want on their winter soldier base jackets (for a an extra fee of course).

Anyone have dealt with the winter soldier arm from Gotham City FX? Trying to figure out how to get the forearm piece on. Cant slide my hand through it. Any help would be appreciated.

GCFX built the arm with the intention of the buyer trimming it down to their size. so, as far as widening the wrist hole, i would suggest either cutting off the endmost ringlet as shown in "A" or cutting 3-5 triangle shaped slits into the edge as shown in image "B". i personally went with the latter. I use an xacto blade to cut into this material.

hope that helps.

So, Freakzter, I'm about to purchase one of Gotham City FX arms and was wondering if you are satisfied with it?

This is a long time since the first post by username Winter Soldier on pg 6. I meant to quote them... hit reply instead. oops.

Working on a Spiderman-esque FABRIC WS arm... Silver spandex (not Jumbo) over an UnderArmor-like mock turtleneck to help with the flexibility and overheating. Did some test work on Sharpie over spandex. Good results.

Hi everyone!! So I'm starting a female winter soldier build. I've been reading everything in this thread and something I'm still looking for are reliable airsoft gun websites??? Any info would be much appreciated!!

I picked up my Skorpion spring air soft from hobby tron. The handle needs to be painted black, but it's a great little gun for a cosplay. I've never used an airsoft gun, so I can't speak for the quality of the gun itself, but hobby tron was an easy purchase. I snagged my SIG Sauer P226 from Amazon. It's pink, but for under $25 I can't argue!! That one should arrive on Friday, so I'll let you know how that's pans out. The TEC 38 and COP 357 I plan on building from modified Nerf Jolts, since these can be tough to find. Hope this helps!!

Thank you!! I had actually seen hobby tron come up in my searches and that was one I was wondering if I should go ahead and order from. I guess I will now!! :)

Has anyone attempted to replicate the grenade / disc launcher? gl-co-02t-2.jpg I found the above airsoft grenade launcher and I could probably alter it to make it work, but I hoped someone else had accomplished it first since I've never tried anything like it before.

I wanted to show my Winter Soldier arm 3.0 progress. I've only been cosplaying for about a year and a half now and I've loved all parts of it: the planning, construction and execution. My first arm was EVA foam, and then I re built that once I got the technique down. Unfortunately, what you can do with foam doesn't let you have much freedom of movement and is very hot. I wanted to create something that was more shiny, like the film, and be more comfortable. Plus, with my EVA foam arm, I need someone to help me attach it and periodically check to make sure the edge of the back isn't sticking out awkwardly.

So, I bought a compression shirt, some lightweight silver spandex and got sewing... by hand. I don't know how to sew, really. I just go for it. I fitted in some extra foam (carved by scissors and xacto blade) and sanded with 150 grit sand paper, between the compression shirt and spandex because I'm a woman and not built all muscular like The Winter Soldier. Here is the initial tack down. I need to finish the cuff and then draw on by hand the plates and star by hand. I tested the sharpie on a sample with pretty good results.

It's not as technically cool as the foam, but I can move my whole arm for all those action shots and I won't sweat to death. Best of all, if I wanted to con solo, I don't need someone to help me into my arm.

Have fun creating, ya'll....

If you Like This Jacket Guys Want to buy and get more information about this jacket click below link:

Bucky Barnes Jacket

These jacket makers kill me. They want to make EVERYTHING out of leather. This coat was a waxed cotton, like a cowboy duster, with leather trim. If I could find one made of the right material, I would grab it.

The knee pads are actually separate from the pants. I ordered the pants you posted. I am a woman so it maybe different for guys but those things went all the way up to my ribcage. I ended up sending them back and ordering the women's style. I will let you all know how they work. There are Airsoft and Paintball websites that have the knee pads attached if you still want to go that route.

What pants brand? I somehow missed it in this huge thread.

So, I'm a late bloomer, so here I am looking to make a Winter Soldier. I've nailed down where I'm getting the arm, but everything else is a gamble. Do we have a more updated list of where to get the various items?

Hi everyone,

So I have the jacket, the vest shouldn't be much of an issue either. I'm going to leave out all the guns and knives, because there are legal issues and a rather antsy police. Maybe I'll have a gun, I don't know yet.

Either way, I've been looking at pants and this thread hasn't really had any pants-talk. So I googled and one of the first results was that these pants are the ones that Bucky wears (HiRes imagery, yay!). Source: Found here

Can we confirm that this is Bucky's legwear?

Also, is there still someone out there who makes the mask for a reasonable price?

These were the pants that I was responding to.
