The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

If I understood what I was reading correctly….The tric display can be made up of 2 independent switchable layers and a background in terms of the ARM LTDC outputting independent layers to the Display Module…

IF….Wand might just be using just 1 layer and the background….then it’s conceivable Wand could use the unused 2nd layer to show inputted user (that’s us) media such as our … vids, images, etc. files…

Here’s what I’m thinking…….

Here’s some cherry picked info touching upon the subject…

Well I thought about it all day yesterday, and even tho the software route seems dead, I still want my tricorder to play some Star Trek. I want to control the playback with my phaser, and have the audio output go to my communicator. I can think of a few different ways to do this, so today im going to figure out the how, decide on the what, and order everything ill need.

Well lookie there…..a bit of access providing the hood has a hole all the way through….wada you think?

Any luck running the firmware on an emulator? (If, purely hypothetically, someone like you just happened to have a copy lying around to test…) ;)
No luck - according to some reddit threads asking if possible, its not possible. Emulators for other stuff exist though, so it cant be impossible.

Since we’re “oring”……

Or….you can gut the hood leaving only LCD and the PCB for the LEDs and switches and transfer the main PCB to the lower compartment….you’ll have to give up the dividers and any hopes of using the lower compartment for anything else other than to mount the main PCB….now you could pullback the wired cable assembly from the hood and relocate it with the Main PCB….

You’ll free up the hole for only running 2 ribbon cables….

That then leaves you with extending and running the ribbons for the LCD and LEDs/switches PCB down to the lower compartment.

Now that you have the main PCB mounted in the lower compartment….you can go to town…on things you want to do….

Can you tell I’m reaching the Zzzzzzz stage….PST

I don’t think most folks would take kindly to losing the lower compartment real estate.

The fact that she wants to mod it means she’s not most folks…..she’s a trailblazer! :)

Sometimes sacrifices for what one wants have to be made…… Or……she could just buy a second Tricorder. She’ll have one modded to what she wants …. and one unmodded..

The hole in the aluminum holds a plastic hinge sleeve thingy that the wires go thru. Any wire leaving the activities unit must go thru that hole or maybe the hole on the other one on the other side. If any wire or ribbon cable tries to leave the hood without going thru one of those 2 holes, it will be seen and probably screw up the opening/closing. Im afraid we either use those two holes, or forget the whole enterprise.

Go over my post about transferring the main PCB to the lower compartment…

After I wake up tomorrow from my self induced coma (Zzzzzzz) I’ll demonstrate how to possibly get both ribbons through the hole of the “thingy”

But I’ll need pics of how the ribbon is for the LEDs/Switches PCB is…..to see if my solution will work.

Does all those wires going through the “thingy” go to this one white connector below?
