The Wand Company TOS Tricorder is coming!

The only way to get that is directly from TWC, and I doubt they would help us. In fact, I bet if Chris from TWC is reading these posts... hes not happy about what im trying to do. And Chris IM SORRY OK I LOVE TWC AND MY TRICORDER BUT I WANT VIDEO

Chris….if your reading this…. Kindly send us whatever is needed to activate the MSD slot functionality so that we will be able to play and read files…..until then, the reverse engineering goes on, if not by those in this forum …then by others elsewhere. It’s just a matter of time….

My guess is there is something in the licensing agreement that prevents TWC from manufacturing and selling a device that can play user-added media files, simply because of the industries attitude when it comes to possibly pirated content. All my digital Star Trek is ripped from my own physical discs (which is legal to do in Canada) but others may use their tricorder to watch content they acquired from torrenting or other illegal means, which im sure ParamountCBS doesnt want to promote by licensing products that make the playback of such content possible. I mean, it does sure look like this thing could play back media files no problem if it had the right firmware, but even if it cant, look at how cheap one of those little mp4 media players are. if i can buy one for $25 then TWC could have added one to the tricorder for $5 BUT THEY DIDNT

OK just for the hell of it, Ill put this out there:
If someone from TWC is following my efforts here and wishes they could help by providing info (like the LCD manufacturer or pin schematic) but cant do it "publicly".... Ive created a burner email (2vix at protonmail dot com) where someone can anonymously send me anything they wish. Im not trying to make money here or anything like that. The max exposure info like this would see is maybe a thread somewhere with a guide on how to modify the tricorder to play media, for the 5 people in the world that want that feature.

also here is a link to the very pathetic thread i have going at the raspberry pi forums: (hardware modification)
and here is a link to the very lonely thread i have going at the xda developers forum: (software modification)

Good Luck with your appeal (y)……..I have a different approach…..

Come Hell or High Water……I’m going to play some files…..

A Nutz and Bowls guy….

:)

See……this is where the Tricorder (intended) log entry switch could have been used….for real, for a different purpose.

The switch in one position let’s the Tricorder do it’s thing…..but slide the switch to the second position would enable the use of the MSDC slot for usage (sure it would require additional engineering, but they had 5-7 years)….

Opportunities missed again .. Sheesh

There’s the possibility he’ll teardown the tricoder again to see where those two screws go…..perhaps if someone could message him somehow and ask if he could teardown further and expose the part number and mfg of the display module.

If one can post comments to his full YouTube webpage under the Posts tab…where I got the pic from without having to sign in….perhaps he’ll see the message which does require a YouTube sign in to post a message.

I left a post on his video 2 days ago asking if he could provide any more info on the display. no reply yet.

I saw that…..which was in the side bar comments of the video itself.

There is another place to do comments….at the Posts tab on his main YouTube page. You could post there as well but with more in depth text elaborated…

Here’s the direct link….

Edit….a better direct link (y)

Interesting….

The main PCB….A possible way in ...other than going through the USB-C.

PROG. typically stands for Program/Programming…

You can either use a 5pin header or solder directly onto the PCB for cables to pc and/or test equipment. Given there’s evidence of solder on the solder pads…that’s probably (all speculation) what they connected to temporarily, to test and program the tricorder at the workbench development phase. No telling what programming language they used … C++, Python, etc.

A typical programming cable for PCB header pins…….of the many pin leads available to go onto the 5 signal paths of the main tric main PCB, only the ones necessary for the design are used and configured. Sometimes the leads ends are made to be solderable for attachment to the PCB.

Nothings for sure until schematics show up…….most likely NEVER

SWDIO and SWCLK are used in the Serial Wire Debug (SWD) interface, a two-wire communication protocol for debugging and programming ARM microcontrollers.

A hiccup in any processor hack is that this ARM MCU has….

Cryptographic acceleration
• AES 128, 192, 256, TDES,
• HASH (MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2), HMAC
• True random number generators

If enabled (perhaps) ….. it may be protected which would make sense from a proprietary point of view, versus an open source free for all. If not enabled…I presume it’s hackable.
