I had no interest in buying this but now I might and I need to re-watch all of every Star Trek ever made. I‘m probably just remembering things with rose colored glasses. Might need to repaint mine all rose colored.
It sounds like it may be more than a spinning disk with a moiré pattern on it.So, next update is about the moire. But what's to tell? It's controlled by a stepper motor, and it rotates. I think it's gonna be a short update. Hopefully it'll have some good pictures of a newer prototype, though. One can hope...
Given the way they frame it "The fringes of science" I suspect we're going to get a bit of a history lesson on the 'science' of the moire and how it is created, etc - along with how they made theirs, and which of them they chose, since there are multiple variations. We'll likely even get a history of the different moire's on the show itself too.So, next update is about the moire. But what's to tell? It's controlled by a stepper motor, and it rotates. That’s right! How could I have forgotten that? You are correct. She was the actress that played that one bit-part character.
I can't imagine what that would be, but we'll see.It will be interesting to see if they intend to do more with the moire than just a spinning disk.
If they build-in that capability, then they really should have gone with the data discs being moires rather than colors. Just swap the discs to swap the moires.Swappable moiré patterns, maybe?
Presumably they are identical to the side we have seen. In fact, the one we've seen laying down could be the other side.We haven't seen the reverse of the data disks yet?
According to Chris, it's a steel washer for weight.magnet core? interesting. I'm guessing that's just to help it stay in place? I would have assumed a solid aluminum puck with painted faces.
-Fascinating
Yeah, between the disks and the battery, this tricorder is going to feel very hefty. I love that.Nice. That's a really nice touch. I'm glad to hear they're taking things like how it feels to hold it into account.
