This is a FREE 3D model…..it has the jagged window on the cover (antenna). The one with the D7 is missing the window.
Just print and do some customization….lights, communicator opening sound….etc.
The hole as I understand it is supposed to be a Klingon banner like on the wall behind Kor. Are we sure it was a hole or just some artwork on the surface?
Mine spins counterclockwise. Is that what everyone else is seeing on theirs? It’s an interesting design choice, considering the Wand Communicator’s moiré spins clockwise (matching the heros?) I would have thought they’d want to maintain continuity with the communicator
Either way, I think it looks fine

Random thought, it was probably cost restrictions why Wand chose to use an ARM M7 MCU in the Tricorder. Wouldn’t it have been nice if the had used an Arm Cortex-A72 CPU which was the processor being used in the Raspberry PI 4 of the period when the Tricorder was first being developed or even the ARM11 CPU that was being utilized in the Raspberry PI Zero. With either of those processors and access to the micro SD card reader it might be possible to run a full Linux implementation on the Tricorder.
It would be cool to see the Raspberry Pi desktop on that little Tricorder screen.

Yeah as time goes on…..we will have dropped off like fly’s. They’ll be no more discoveries of Easter Eggs, tricorder Ooooopses, …hopefully someone would figure out the hack to play or read your own files….and then the thread dies.

Thanks to the tric, the other day was the first time in my life I "heard", in the "listened to and understood" sense, the second captain's log in Journey to Babel. Because, you see, every single time I watch the episode, I am so taken in by the little guys pouring liquor over their colored melon cubes and marshmallows that I forget to pay attention to the voiceover. EVERY TIME IN MY 58 YEARS!
Since it's so loose, you can adjust it if you prefer an "+" or "x" appearance of the moire pattern. Just fogging it up with your breath and a microfiber gets fingerprints off. I believe the "+" appearance is usually preferred. MR went with it.

How did you get the rod out without taking the aluminium panel off though? Obviously it doesn’t just slide out, did you use a punch?

I just used a hex head bit from a micro screwdriver set that was narrower than the rod and just pushed in from one end.

So…here’s a comparison…the first moire pic (from the left going right) is purportedly Wah’s Hero…it’s static black lines white background……then Chris B. shows Adam S., in the Tricorder coming out party on Tested….a motorized backlit moire with black lines and a white background lit (unlit when off), center pic…cool …so now my uncalibrated eyes are seeing a motorized backlit moire with black lines and an “amber(ish) lighted” background, (really using 3 Yellow LEDs) right pic….
Imo…..Wand came closer to Wah with its black lines and white background as Chris B. showed Adam S. In Tested.
Why the background color change to “amber(ish)” ??

I’d like to find out what was the Part Number used for the White LED’s before swapping to Yellow LEDs
